What did you do in the garden today?

In the middle of making my old fashioned sweet pickles and everything feels off bc instead of starting at night, I had to start during the day. I figure overnight is 7/8 hours? I never had to worry w time when I began the process at night!
It didn’t rain yesterday!
I need to do some weeding but it looks like rain right now!!
The lemon tomatoes couldn’t handle all this rain but the beefsteaks are well over 4ft tall now and lots of blooms!

You know, sometimes I wish I lived in a warmer climate than northern NY, zone 5. After hearing about the spiders, I think I am fine where I am! It’s a long enough season to grow what we need, and although we get heaps of snow, no tarantulas, no black widows, lol. I like spiders, I do, but none around us are a problem. Ticks are the biggest bug I am afraid of. But letting the chickens peruse the yard nightly has helped tremendously with them.

I love my garden spiders and just don’t pay attention to the rest

I can attest to this. It may not be a native plant but it's too good to not grow. I haven't mowed my orchard in over a month. White clover gets about 8" at the tallest.

Speaking of clover, I would always know what the surrounding farmers used as cover crop bc red clover etc would pop up in clumps in my yard. I love clover

Horses love clover too. It makes them drool like crazy though

So far I have done a tiny bit of watering and turned the compost. these tomatoes are taking forever to ripen I want to be able to say I picked some tomatoes

Sweet pickles? What is that? Never heard of it… recipe please

My shade beefsteak and one of the shade supersweets needed a taller stake so I managed to do that without replacing it. Now to tie it up

Yeah, the slobbers can be deadly though. That's the main reason I don't have clover in my pastures....
