What did you do in the garden today?

I tried something new today. Picked a handful of young horseradish leaves, sliced them thin and stir fried them. Ate them on top of some rice with a little soy sauce. They were good. A little spicy but not much, and they're a brassica so healthy eating.

Today the weather being sunshine and mighty wind...I will be doing a lot of work in the garden today.

Try to move my pumpkin plant from a pot into the ground. I don't eat much pumpkin, but it is so nice to let them grow on my lawn, make my garden looks so beautiful, mom loves pumpkin and so are my chickens.

Harvest worm casting for my pot plants - rash berries and chillies.

Oh I love this sunshine and wind, love it to the moon and back.:wee

My two Japanese cucumber plants started to kick out a few cucumbers. I picked two this morning and made Korean style pickles. There are 3 main ingredients with a ratio of 2-1-1, it's easy to remember. Two parts shoyu, one part sugar, and one part rice vinegar. For two cucumber and a few chunks of white blanched egg plants I used 1 cup shoyu, 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup vinegar. Sesame seeds, sesame oil, chopped green onions, and chili pepper are optionable.

I salted my cucumber with two tsp salt and rinsed it 3 times after it drew out the water. It was about a 30 minute wait.

What kind of Japanese cukes? Are they easy to grow?

Blanched Daikon leaves can be eaten the same way...

I buy them from my local Lowes Garden department. It has powdery mildew resistance, so it's easy to grow. I have one growing in a wicking bucket and another in 5-gallon Kratky set up. I connected two 5-gallon buckets together, so I could add solution in one bucket daily. I refill to 7 inches daily. It's drinking about a gallon of master blend a day. I also had to put up some partial shade.
