Hello everyone! So I am new to owning chickens and they make a lot more different sounds than duck do. Does anybody know what these chicken sounds mean? What does the “BA BA BA BECOOCK BA BA” mean? And the kind of “eeeeee b b b eeee”? Sorry this does not seem like a very good way to put their sounds, but I didn’t really know how to do it.😅

Anyways, any help and sound, identification would be appreciated! Thank you!

The first one could be the egg song, or an alert sound for ground predators. Did it coincide with egg laying? A video would be really helpful.

Buk buk buk buk buk BACOCK!! = “hey rooster, I need an escort, there’s something scary/or I laid an egg!”

BUK Buk uk uk = “I see something weird on the ground” (like a dog or cat)

UUur= “look up, there’s something flying over”

iiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiIIIIIiiiii = “weiiiirrdddd…..” (I think)

*while pecking at food* bk bk bik bik bik bk bk bk = “yum yum, come get some food!”

This is definitely accurate!!

Or, alternatively, when screamed at increasingly loud and hysterical volumes:

Hey, Rooster, Human is in the hen house cleaning and interfering with my ability to settle in a nest to lay my egg, come and chase her out right NOW!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrsceeeeeee: aerial predator
Doh, doh doh: good night/roll call
Buk buk buk buCAWK buk buk BUK: egg song

Regular chitter chatter: exploration/gossip

Spot on. I wonder what the difference is between the three ‘sky’ noises mentioned:

Uuur- short kind of back-of-the-throat, combination of ‘oh’ and gulping sound

Grrrrrrskeeeeeeee- I forgot this one but I’ve definitely heard it

High pitched, soft trilling while holding very still (with one eye looking at the sky)- I’ve also observed this one
