Growing up in FL as a FL native those winter guests were kindly referred to as snowbirds by the natives. Those that stayed behind as new residents were still snowbirds only now they had a broken wing. Thus the term "Snow Bunnies" was created, a name for older folks (of which I am) from cold winter states that take off a couple of the coldest months and head to warmer states, then come back in the spring.
I just go visit Dad in Florida for a few days, but I have chickens here, so I have no desire to leave for more than that, or I'd have to take them with me.
