Hi:

I have a white sultan who is 9 weeks. Her feathers on the top of her head are so fluffy that she can't see - they cover her eyes.

Is it ok to "trim" them so she can see better? I feel so bad for her!

Thanks,
Tara

i would just leave her be. all the picturs of white sultans i've seen i cant see they're eyes so i would imagin just leave'in them be would be ok

If she is just a pet or breeder. I say it would be ok to trim it. Just watch the eyes ! I get really paranoid about cutting around eyes that with chickens and my shih tzu. If it is a show bird, or if you plan on showing I would leave it alone. I hope that helps.

She's just a pet, but she's so clumsy and I am sure it's because the poor thing can't see. When I pulled the feathers away to see her eyes, she was like "wow, THAT"S what you look like!" LOL

Any part you can't cut (feathers don't have feeling, to they?)

Thanks,
Tara

Don't worry about how far you cut the feathers, they're just like hair. The only difference is that, if you want the feather to grow back, you have to PLUCK it, the whole thing. When you do that they may squirm, but it's not as hard as it seems.

That's great to know! So if I trim it, I don't have to trim it again unless she molts and loses those feathers! COOL!

I have 4 polish who I swear can't see a thing, but my DH says that they're like an old english sheepdog........you can't see them but they can see you

That said, we did trim the roo's topknot, but be careful as there are horns in there! I cut one

I felt terrible. For the girls, I buy the packs of little rubber bands at Dollar General and every couple of days put their fro up out of their eyes

It falls out after a couple of days. I'm too scared to do a trim again!
