That's neat Jared. We have a couple of authentic German Steins in my husbands bar collection. As well as a number of beer trays, signs, tip trays, ... It will work nicely to keep the bees out of your soda when you are outside.

Jared, You were asking about attachments for your moms new kitchenaid and I have a suggestion: the ice cream bowl. It is great for making frozen yogurt, fruit ices, and ice cream. I have the pasta maker. I have never been able to get the pasta maker/press to work, I think you need to have...

Jared, Glad that you caught the fire right away! The best practice is to have a metal can with a tight-fitting lid that you put the ashes in when you clean a fireplace. Store the can outside - away from the house. You never know when there will be hot ember left over. So many house and...

Jared, that is a cool experiment that you have going there. About 10 or 15 years ago my sister got my dad a calender for Christmas where he would track the weather stats (temp, sun, wind) every day and then at the end of the year send the calender back to the group to add the local data to...

I am pretty late to the party, but I have a gas stovetop with an electric oven. I love it - but ours is pretty fancy. Who needs their oven to talk to their phone, seriously?!? The oven has so many settings: Bake, Convection Bake, High broil, Low Broil, Warm, Timed Bake, Proof, and Self...

@jnicholes I have a couple of camp cookbooks that I love. You might be able to find them in used book stores or such. They are "Cee Dubs" camp cooking. Alot of interesting recipes that he has developed. Especially for cast iron/dutch oven cooking.

I have 2 recipes for Peach Cobbler that have alcohol in them - one uses rum and one uses bourbon. I found that I like Southern Comfort over the bourbon - but the flavors go well with peaches. In fact, when I can Peaches I only use the nice slices for packing in the jars. Then I take all the...

@Bigandlittles Welcome to the home bakers thread!! I look forward to hearing about your baking adventures. Not baking - but I just made a batch of homemade Tapioca pudding. I forgot how much I love this stuff! I put it into small 1/2 containers with lids so I can take if for dessert after...

@jnicholes Your friend may appreciate having a couple meals in the freezer before the baby is born. The first couple days or so are pretty rough for new mothers and they don't feel like company.

@BigBlueHen53 We use the pizza crust recipe from Alton Brown - he called it Pizza Pizza. If you search the internet for "alton brown pizza crust" you will find it. We also do a recipe from George Hirsch for grilled pizza - it works great in the oven also.

@Aria Maybe you could get something on wheels so you wouldn't have to lift the bags. I am thinking of a handcart or something like that. Attach a bin to it - fill the bin in the woodshed, roll it into the house, fill the hopper of the pellet stove.

@Ladies-Eight I wonder if that cake would still be good without the pineapple. I really don't like pineapple at all. OK, I hate pineapple! Maybe use 2 cans of oranges?

@Aria I have used vinegar to remove strong odor in my house in the past, not sure if it will work on smoke. some say to boil a cup of vinegar in a pot, some say to just leave a bowl of vinegar on the counter, i did the second and it definately helped when we had the kitchen drain back-up...

Late to the discussion, but I have the large Kitchen Aide mixer that lifts the bowl up to the beater, the head is fixed. It is about 16 1/2" tall. I really like it - it is more powerful that the 5 quart one that I had. Which I gave to my sister who really loves it. The older one is over 20...

For our own personal use, I just use my eggs as they are, I don't bother pasturizing them. If I need to use something raw for guests - I buy pasteurized for that use.
