About 1 year of age for our mixed flock. Welsummers, then BA, then BCM went broody. Now have two tat think they need chicks but are getting an ice bath dunking later today to stop this in the bud.
Same story. Bought two and mounted to a 5 gallon bucket. They were fine for two weeks and then leaked. I took it apart and everything seemed to work fine. But they still leaked. Now it is time to modify for nipple waterers.
Great question as my 7 week old are getting feisty in their brooder in the coop. Guess its time to build a grow out pen in the coop just for them and wean them from the heat lamp. Currently highs of 60 and lows in the teens in the coop.
Two Rhode island reds (Darrell and Daryl), a Dominique (Larry) and an ee named jack two to replace a not too bright welsummer who tried to eat a light bulb and failed to digest it (pulled a klinger from mash)
We've already got 7 girls of various lineage and wanted to add 1 or two more. Ended up coming home with 4 four week old pullets. Oh well more comedic relief:)
I have three for my 10 girls. Once they transitioned from their older wood ones they seem to use them exclusively. I use grass mats cut to size instead of wood shavings and can't find any negatives yet. Found them locally to save on shipping.
