Update:
About 8 weeks of age...no distinct redness of the comb...this one has really stumped me.
May have to wait further if we still cannot get an answer.
What do you guys think?
Hen or Roo?
...y'all. Not sure if this one is a hen or a roo...still might be a bit early to tell for sure, but I figured I'd run it by some trained eyes first.
**now that I think about it I am I'm leaning towards hen (mainly due to the lack of a developing comb), but this is my first go around with EE's...
Final numbers:
47 shipped eggs set
13 hatched, 28% hatch rate.
Addition:
I need more than 13 to fill the coop! I'll have to have another hatch..Any other hatch-a-longs starting soon? I think I can get some eggs from someone near by with the weather warming up. Just have to convince everyone...
Happy Easter!
Hatch is going okay so far. I ran into a couple issues that I though you guys might be able to help me with.
I have 6 chicks that hatched out perfectly fine, no issues during zip or anything. However I have atleast 4 (possibly more) that piped and then died in their shell. That...
Finally! The on-time hatch has begun! :bun
I have 4 pips! Being quail I will probably see them hatched by morning. In fact they will all probably hatch tomorrow, once one hatches the rest follow! Like poping popcorn )
Happy hatching all and congrats to everyone with successful hatches! :woot
Good morning BYC peeps!
You crazy people with early chicks! Showing them off to all of us and making on-time hatcher feel the heat. You're all driving me crazy! Making me think my hatch has gone bad because I don't have ANY action yet.
Luckily I am patient...and I know, our time will come...
Lock down complete, now let the hatching commence! :jumpy
On another note....
It just occurred to me that today is Aptil 1st...other wise known as, April Fools Day!:plbb

First off, weird is normal here.
Second, unfortionately... I have never seen a "normal" blood ring. So if you are absolutely positive that what you saw was a blood ring, then the embryo has died or is going to (depending on when the ring formed and when you candled it) :(
This is a great second option if you don't want to spend the extra $50 for the genesis 1588 or a Brinsea (but If you have the cash go for a Brinsea Eco or Genesis 1588 it's worth the money!)
I got it from a friend 3 years ago and I have successfully hatched 5+ batches out of this incubator (one...
Top has a large clear plastic window for best viewing of the incubation and hatching process. Picture window is double plate plastic with air space insulation to help eliminate moisture buildup, which would obstruct viewing. Large viewing area is ideal for classroom work, science projects...
Yep :) The temperature did finally stabilized at 98-99 (after some adjusting) so everything is running smoothly for now.
On another note, I love all the cool candling pics you guys are posting! Keep em coming!
Luckily it is forced air...but it's old. What incubator are you currently relying on?
Thanks for the tip! I do have a new accurate thermometer so incorrect readings shouldn't be an issue. Room temperature should remain stable +/-2degrees or so.
I just hope the temp fluctuation hasn't caused...
I have to express my incubator rage to my fellow online poultry folks...My family doesn't quite share the same passion as I do. My old hovabator incubator will not keep a stable temp! It ranges about 4 degrees, in fact, just this morning I woke up to find it at a min of 97.3 and a max of 101.4...
