1/4cup bacon grease a bad idea to add to a cooked flock block in your opinion? I usually use coconut oil. I would add the 1/4cup bacon grease to about 5 cups of dry ingredients. Thanks, just curious cause i was about to throw it away. 🐓❤️
Hello my feathered friends, I'm curious, do you know anyone on BYC that makes and sells crop bras for hens? Just wanna get one to have in my 'chicken stuff' bin and would like to support a fellow byc member. Thanks!
Hello! Cold Connecticut checkin' in. Everything gets frozen, no random dust bathing going on, so i want to make my own. I have access to wood ash, but what else can i purchase to make a good dust bath through the winter! Dust bathing is very important around here! Thank you 🐓❤️

Please dont judge but when my hen Patient came in from free ranging, she was bleeding because she was missing a toe nail. The entire nail was gone and she was dripping blood. I immediately scooped her up & brought her into the house where I gathered my first aid and planned to wash/disinfect the...
Hello! Quick question. 3 hens i have added to my flock of 5. New 3 hens have their own space in a temporary enclosure outside. During the day, all hens free range. I open both coops and the new 3 stay away and its fine. Heres my question: should i prevent my original flock of 5 from entering the...
My 2 yr old GLW has loose poop. Always has. Anyway, the wetness of it all leaves her booty red, and raw. bathing her helps but i was wondering if there is something i can apply say, quickly day to day if i notice the redness. I dont want it to become infected. I need a preventative 'barrier'...

Grab some oyster shells and crush em with a rock! Saves me a little money, and I know they are authentic. 2yr old hens, never a hardness of shell issue. Unfortunately, i have to go to the beach in this winter to get some more!
Jeesh! I hear a non threatening, but attention getting for sure chatter from one of my 5 hens. They are normally pretty quiet with an occasional egg laying song; soooo, what the heck!? I go outside to see. 2 hens are in the henhouse laying. Well, what I seen was Coppertop standing outside of the...

Hello! I found a really fun activity for my 5 hens. They love this so much that i am making them in advance! Take small newspaper pieces (nonshiny), and add a little scratch, wrap it up and bomb the run! I hang these as well or stick them in little places to hold them in place, or not. The...
