Thankfully my rooster lets me know when a predator is lurking and this coon has been coming around since New Years Eve, and found it IN my chicken pen (climbing in through a weak spot in covered dog kennel) for the 3rd time today.
The first two times I chased it out... this time it was in the...
I have an existing small patio or concrete pad 12x12 outside my back door but want to make it bigger... add an additional 35 ft x 12ft to it. (because I have a 2nd hand patio cover to put up)
I've considered crushed concrete (with weed barrier under)...
OR ... more challenging but even...
What usually causes wet droppings in chicks? Aside from keeping food/water bins clean is there anything else to fix it? I feed my rabbit a tablespoon of raw quick oats and that does the trick. What works for chicks?
Update: It has cleared up tonight. I switched from papertowels to wood...
If you didn't like the Brownie in a Mug recipe, you might like this one. It is similar in some ways but in my opinion you can't mess it up.. and it's very moist and creamy in the middle!
It uses an EGG (of course!) and is SF and Low Carb... for those who care. I still make it when I'm...
Has anyone figured it out? I have standard sizes only.
Hatched out 2 today... need to buy some feed for them...
Last spring with 4 chicks I kept buying it in small bags measured out by feed store...
Know I'll need at least the 25 lb bag.... but would a 50 lb be overkill and go rancid...
I have tried searching... only found one PIP picture so far... and am being impatient with my ONE pip.... I'd like to see what a normal PIP and Zip looks like...as well as abnormal...

Friends ask me why do I have a ROO if I don't need one for egg laying... well I didn't PLAN to have a Roo.. he was supposed to be a SHE..

I'm candling EE green shells, so they are hard to see in anyway. I understand not supposed to candle, move or open incubator after day 17 anyway.
When do you stop candling? Can you see anything other than a dark mass after day 14 or so?
Candling 5 EE eggs , at start of day 5
Air cells looking good.. yolks slowly float to top side (candling laying on side) and can see evidence of veins... in some better than others.
The main difference are in the yolk shapes. I think 2 showed darker side. 1 appeared to a have a darker...
I'm trying to incubate some eggs from my own flock. Roo is a gorgeous BO... a big boy... and the hens are EE's... smaller and bird like.
I just wonder if any one knows how they might end up looking? Is it possible they will ALL look Different? Is it possible that they will be Bigger than...
Saw a skillet hot plate at goodwill for 4 dollars and bought the WM accurite with probe. I'm attempting this with the fertilized eggs from my little flock, using the 'dry' method if I understand it right. Goal is to keep the eggs at 40% humidity and 101F till the last few days and hand turning...
Not sure what "normal' is as this is my first small flock.
One of my hens has always had a whitish looking comb... I've recently tried to see if any dry skin flakes off or lifts off with my finger nail (gently) and no it doesn't. Now today the same spot has a black crescent scab in the recess...

My roo's behavior first thing in the morning has become very animated and kind of aggressive. It's kinda funny to me, but it makes me want to watch him for awhile till he calms down and make sure he isn't too rough on his girls. He does try to mate...
What type storage bins do you use to store ALL the different bags of feed, scratch, oyster shell, etc??? PLUS DE (which I haven't ordered yet)
Can you post pictures of what you use?
I was thinking about ordering 3 -4 of these bins to stack up tall... do you think it will work ok...
I have found all the food supplies needed for my chickens, except for 'grit'. The local feed store told me that "oyster shell' IS grit. Well, I do offer them "oyster shell" free-choice for their egg production, but I've since read that oyster shell dissolves and isn't "true grit" so to speak...
