What is the earliest you have put chicks in a barn with a heat lamp.

I have 6 chicks that are rapidly outgrowing the rubbermaid container they are in. They are, 2 weeks old, last year I only had a few so there was more room. They have all started feathering out and have been jumping up on the edge of the container. I was wondering how early I could put them out...

Does anyone have a pic of a RIR x White leghorn as a chick and adult.

I hatched some 6 chicks out last Friday. One of my eggs was from my White leghorn. Needless to say it was not what I expected I was expecting it to look like a red sex-link but when it hatched it looks almost black but it really is mostly dark rust colored. So I was curious as to what this chick...

Are suet cakes ok on really cold days?

I was curious if a wild bird suet cake would be ok to give the chickens. Only when the temps get really cold. I know that wild birds eat it for the extra calories to help stay warm in the winter. I was wondering if the same would apply to the chickens or is it just to much fat for their systems.

Why do you stand eggs on end to incubate?

This maybe a silly question but I was wondering why eggs are stood up when we humans incubate but in nature the hen sits on them laying on there side? I am assuming it has something to do with the air sac but was just curious.

Is a dust box needed in the winter?

I was wondering if I need to put some sort of dust box in the coop for the winter months. And if so what dimensions work best? And what do you put in it sand, dirt, ashes, DE or something else?

I have searched the forums and have been unable to find any information on a good pellet feed available near Kalamazoo MI. I have tried Heinold, Dumor, and Layena and am tired of buying them and getting mostly powder in the bags. So I thought this would be a great place to ask what others are...
