I have a hen who just recently in the last few days won't get out of the box (so I thought broody) but then I take her out of the coop and she scratches the ground like a bull about to fight but doesn't eat the grass or anything, she also has her feathers poofed out ALL the time. What's wrong...
I wasn't out there too long as I was only planned to quickly check everyone (which we've never had a problem, yet) and to grab eggs. But I in the 10-15 mins I was she ate, drank and sat in the corner; no sneezing or wheezing. Can I buy Tylan 50 at local farm store?
Hi
I live Michigan and right now we are still in negative temps (over week straight and looks like it will be continuing).
I also woke up to an Easter egg hen with what I thought was no eyes, when I looked closer I did notice she thankfully had eyes but they have what looks like spit in her...
Hi
This is our first time having chickens and we got 2 batches a month apart.
1st batch doing awesome (besides getting a roo). As we were cleaning the cage that the older chicks were in (we placed 1st batch in their coop and going to place 2nd batch in cage) anyway.. We sanitized everything...
Thanks. My 2x4's in contact with ground are treated and my osb (correction by husband sry) is not but will have linoleum on it. Our floor has many stud supports ( I don't know terminology, but I can build! Lol) and the outside with have a clear coat for rot. I didn't put anything under it to...
I can't wait any longer to post so it's not finished but I'll keep it updated until we are done!!
I did a lot of research about chickens, coops and everything in between for months now! I wanted to make sure that I did things right the first time (I'm kind of learning from byc that that's not...
I ordered from Meyer hatchery. I ordered 2 Black australorps and my meal maker came in also as a black australorp. Out of the three this is the only one with a "white" beak (other 2 are black) and white spot on head.
my chicks are only 2 weeks old but I've noticed my husbands favorite chick is showing signs of maybe begin a roo (I am also a newbie and that's why I'm asking for help!) signs that are noticeable to me 1. His comb 2. Holds his head high (higher than the rest) 3. Already is starting a strut walk...
Thank you so much! I've searched on this site and researched many books and have found good dimensions for perches and nest boxes, but not much info about how they get up there. I would rather not crowd my coop with a million ramps but defiantly willing to if that's what they need!. I will have...
Building my coop! I have a large variety of chicks: Brahma, Orpington, jersey giant, australorp, Easter egger, Andalusian, and hamburg. My nest boxes on one side are 3ft off floor with poop pans on roof of nest box and perches above that and on the other side nest boxes are about 2ft off floor...
Sweet pdz with shavings should work but let the ground dry as best as possible first.
Is your run covered? If not I suggest covering it otherwise don't put shavings down.
Great first post for newbies!!!
I just received my chicks last Friday from Meyer hatchery and all 9 healthy and alive (I won't take that for granite) I also chose them because of shipping distance and great reviews on here. I live in Michigan about 3 hours away and it took 2 full days to...
Just be careful I've heard if u have a mite etc infestation that any bedding in the same area (wether a wall in between or not) will be contaminated and needs to be thrown out! But awesome job I love the wood/rustic look
Love it... It's great to see another women doing what I did! Thanks for having the confidents in urself and pushing forward even in least confident times... I had a fews times exactly like you did where you learn as much as you could and then you just have to trust yourself and do it! (Learn...
