:welcome You did come to the best place for answers to your problem. There are many passionate folks here who just want what's best for our feathered family. Since you have already been given good advice on getting another friend or two, or three, or four. LOL I do have one question though...

Coronavirus, Covid 19 Discussion and How It Has Affected Your Daily Life Chat Thread

My DH and I have always been preparers no matter what we were planning to do. We always stocked up in the fall so we didn't need to be in stores doing cold and flu season. When this virus hit Washington and California back on Jan 15, we said this was going to get bad. We are in Ohio. As the...

Q about feeding mice. **Those against killing mice DO NOT CLICK***

My chickens would also go nuts of mice or anything small that moved, but there is downside for chickens swallowing them whole. I lost one of my hens because she choked to death on a mouse. Sorry if pic is to graphic.

    Care of Broilers

I never bother with any vaccinations because we usually butcher at 8 weeks. The only problem with Cornish Cross is that since they are bred for fast growth, they can suffer heart/lung problems. Sometimes their organs can't keep up with the fast growth. It is recommended to limit the amount of...

My Cornish X. 1st time with meaties!

I wouldn't worry about the toes if the are walking OK. Cornish Cross are breed for fast growth. They will be ready to butcher in 8-10 weeks depending on how much feeding. Good luck. :frow

    Lots of questions

Hi and :welcome If you really want to take meat chickens to the fair, my suggestion would be to purchase Cornish Cross chicks. You can start them on a medicated chick starter priced around $13-15. Cornish Cross will be ready to go to fair in 8-10 weeks depending on how much feed is given, so...

    Best supplier/hatchery for meat birds?

Central hatchery does have great prices. The only thing is that .86 cents per bird is for 100 of them and they are straight run. I prefer males only. For orders less than 100, there is a $5.00 charge plus shipping and there is a 50 chick minimum. I wish I had a barn big enough for that many.

    Best supplier/hatchery for meat birds?

I have ordered meat birds from Meyer hatchery in Polk OH for 16 years now and have never had a problem with the birds. Although, I just placed my first order from Welp hatchery for 30 male Cornish rocks for the week of April 7th because Meyer cannot get my meat birds before May 7th. That's too...

How do you rest your birds?

I have three large coolers with ice and the fridge to do the resting of 30 birds in. As long as you can keep the meat cold, you will be fine with whatever you can find. Good luck. :thumbsup

Who has purchased eggs from ebay ? and what was your hatch rate ?

You say none of them hatched but what I want to know is, did any of the eggs start to develop? I think this thread would have helped me more if it were titled Who purchased eggs from E-bay and how many got eggs to start. I can't blame a seller on e-bay or any place that sells eggs, if their eggs...

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. I go from the house to the garage at 2 wks. with heat lamps. Then to the coop at 4 wks. Unless it is warm, then they might go out sooner. If it is still cool, they may get a heat lamp out there as well. Good luck. :thumbsup
