Anyone else out there have this problem with their R-Com 20? Mine works great as far as holding temperature and humidity. Recently the turner makes a horrible, loud groaning noise. Any ideas would be appreciated. I think I've heard about others having problems with this model, but I don't...
We moved this week and set up our chickens in their electric net fence. Now, I'm losing a silkie a day and can't figure out what kind of predator I have here. I find a pile of feathers and the carcass picked down to the bone. It leaves the feet and legs. I'm pretty sure they are being killed in...
This is my tiny Serama. I have been thinking all along it is a pullet, but now it is growing a small comb and wattles. This one was hatched September 18th and has always been much smaller than my other Serama chicks. The scale is dusty, but this chick is 6.0 oz at 9 weeks. Here is a photo I took...
My Serama pairs are in wire bottom cages. I have both a cup and a rabbit feeder for feed. The highlight of their day is billing out the feed. I tried raising the feeders, then raising them again. It works for a while, then the get the hang of slinging the feed out anyway. Any ideas?
My very old GQF, probably a 1200 series, (plywood exterior) was holding temperature perfectly, then stopped heating. It's not a thermostat issue, I've checked those out. Anyone out there had to replace the heating element?
This little Serama will be six weeks old tomorrow. She weighs in a two ounces and looks more like a two week old. The purple on the back of her head is left over from the pick-stop lotion I put on her to keep the others from bullying her. I have no idea if she will stay tiny or be a late bloomer...
I bought a batch of six Serama eggs locally, and was disappointed when only one hatched. It is one unusual chick. At 18 days old, it is still tiny. The chicks in with him are only about 8-10 days older. Think it will catch up, or is this one going to be really small?
I bought this old cabinet incubator. I think it is a very old GQF, but I don't see any model information on it. It is all plywood and has different latches than the newer models.
So far, I've tested the turners, heater and thermostat and everything seems to be working. Anyone else have this model?
I've heard that Silkies are harder to sex than most chicks. I bought seven Silkies and a Showgirl. They are about 10 weeks old now and so far they all look like hens.
I have another Silkie chick that is about a month old and I can already tell he is a rooster. The comb is reddish and growing...
I borrowed this design from pamperedpoultry. The overall size is 4' x 8'. My big coop with a electric net fence is great for grown hens, but wasn't working for younger birds and bantams. This works great!
Thought I'd give posting photos a try! Here are some Seramas I bought locally. Wasn't really looking, but they were so cute, how could I resist!
Anyway, here are the photos, tell me what you think. I'd like to learn what to look for in a serama. I've got eggs from another source in the...
