The girls had the ramp down by the second day of the pop door being open. I had to put them back in the coop the first night, and they automatically have been going into the coop at sundown since. The first evening in the run was accompanied with lots of happy chortling, having to train the dogs...
Not painted. I figured that between chicken talons and scraping it off with a putty knife on occasion that the paint would get beaten up pretty quickly. I did paint the 2x2's for the frame.......lol
Another good day, and the cacklers are enjoying their new run! I built the ramp that I had envisioned, cleaned out the run of all the scrap wood and tools, then let them out. Took some convincing, and I needed to pick them up and place them back into the coop after the sun set, but I expected...
Thank you for the kudos everyone, It makes a old hack like me feel better about what he is trying to do!
Had a good day yesterday. I assembled the door. After installing the rest of the hardware cloth and a cross brace, I hung the door. Installed the latch and made so you could get out with...
I will stay with the sand. It should be easy to rake up the leavings. Hoping to have them in the run by end of day Sunday, but i still have a ramp to make......lol.
Had some time after work to spend on the coop and run. Cut out and put together the door frame, and cut a cross brace for the side the door is on. Got out the white paint and gave it all a good coating.of pigment.
Worked on the door for about a hour after I got home from work. Cut out the plywood and painted it.Tomorrow I will put one more coat on it before starting to put the frame and trim on it.
All cut out
And it is Red!
Is anyone else finding this rain a bit tedious? I have had rain almost every day for so long, and I would much rather have at least a dry cloudy day in the low 50's than this rainy days in the mid forties.........makes working on the coop and run on my one day off this weekend much more...
So far they seem happy! really rainy weekend, so I did a bit of painting under cover and worked on my next video blog installment. It is currently uploading to YouTube, will post as soon as it is done.
Here is a few photos until then:

I got home from work earlier than I have all week. Did the last couple things that needed to get done on the coop, done. I made and installed the pop door. I also made a temporary roost, spread pine shavings, hung a feeder, You know whats next. Add food, water, and chickens! I now have 8 young...
Sorry it took so long, work gets in the way now.......
Hinge is screwed directly to the T1-11, with the trim installed over the hinge. The hinge pin is about 5/8" from edge of T1-11 so there is trim covering the cut edge.
Thanks everyone for following me in my adventure, and the very nice compliments!
I had a good day, started earlier than normal and got a good bit done. Finally a nice sunny day to work in! Almost ready to move chickens into the coop! Started my day recovering from my little engineering snafu...
I purchased them from Wilco feed store in Puyallup. I have unplugged the heat lamp. At 250 watts, its good to save some $$ on electricity. I have a circulation fan pulling fresh air into the small room they are in. The room used to be used for growing medicine when I was a provider.
