Hi chicken tenders. It's been a while. I've gone thru the days of being that "chicken snob" who only raised fluffy butt English orpingtons to just being glad the one game hen I had survived and hatched two clutches last year. I've gone from two dz to 5. (Predators or someone stealing them, idk)...
Oh well, I decided to let them stay in their cups to hatch and all 5 are doing great. One did get stuck for a minute in a cup that was still connected to another one, but the others were able to tip over with no trouble. I figure things out eventually.
I have 5 little chocolate birchen English orpington eggs on lockdown today. They were shipped from Maine to Alabama and given to me to hatch. They've spent their incubation time upright, in little cups I made for them out of a cardboard egg carton. I've been reading up on hatching these, but my...
Just wanted to say hi Alabama peeps! What's hatching?? Someone gave me 3 dz. Silver laced English orpington hatching eggs about a week ago. Anxiously awaiting 4/1, when they're scheduled to hatch.
I'm happy that the other 7 are doing well. But sad about the little one that didn't live. My flock was reduced by 3 when a fox kept getting my hens. Then I had to rehome 2 roosters due to lack of ladies. 2 of the hens I lost were lavender orpingtons I hatched last year. But they left me some...
I just had 7 chicks hatch in my incubator The last one pipped, but I noticed a crusty yellowish substance around the air hole. The chick was peeping and I could see it's little beak opening and closing. I noticed more of the yellow (mostly clear) stuff crusting on its beak. I tried to rub a...
I am seriously thinking I'm going to have to process my roosters too. I'm keeping them separate right now, but there's not enough hens for them all. So now they're harassing my hens and hurting my beautiful lavender English orpington guy who is the only one I want to use for breeding The other...
You mean like, wolf worms? I've pulled a couple out of kittens. Just awful! We have alot of squirrels here, but I can deal with them. It's the dang foxes killing my hens that I'd like to take a rifle to!!
I live down the mountain from you, in Laceys Spring! I am currently trying to reconfigure my flock, as I've lost three of my hens to a fox. Now there are too many roosters and yesterday someone drew blood on the only one I want to keep. Anybody nearby need a very pretty lavender orpington roo? I...
His legs are really thick, and seem to be turned out a little. And his big flight feathers stick out like there's nothing underneath to support them.
I definitely don't want to pass that on.
I get that he's not a rooster yet. And my girls won't be hens til next spring. I have been looking for a lavender orpington male for a while now, and I've just been surprised by what I've seen. I don't want to pass his problems down to the next generation. I guess rehoming would be best. And...
I finally found an LO rooster, and he came with a friend. A friend who has really fat legs and strange wings. Now I'm hearing of recessent genes in lavender orpingtons? Any advice? I don't wanna breed him. But he's not really showing any signs of wanting to breed yet. What can be done about...
