Found a 3 ft copperhead snake in my shop. It's been about 2 years since I've had chickens. I've been trying SO HARD to get some Sulmtaler eggs, but I've never been able to get my paws on on any. Can anybody sell me any??? PLEASE???? *pout*
I finally got all my bits and pieces together for my home made 'bator upgrade, and I don't need chooks this year! How on earth am I supposed to test it to make sure it works well? What to do what to do...I don't suppose anybody in the south-of-Houston area needs mutt chicks? :D
I don't understand what's going on with my chickens lately. They make a huge racket, doing their annoyed cackle, or sometimes even their predator call, until I come outside. Then they shut up and wander around quietly like normal. They've got food, they've got water, there aren't any nasties...
I'm thinking pullet? Although the tail feathers aren't showing up yet.
I'm totally undecided on this one.
Here's the first one's 'twin'. I'm going with Pullet.
The title of this picture is "I'm a boy!" Even though his tail feathers came in days before everybody elses, I've had him...
My chicks started flipping their water dish over, and I didn't want a repeat of the last time I raised chicks where they got the cardboard wall of the brooder wet and then pecked their way to freedom. (Imagine chasing 10 3 week old chicks around the house. Yeah )
I'd read here on BYC about...
I'm trying really really hard to convince my Mr that I *need* to turn this into an incubator.
Don't you all think this would make a kick arse cabinet incubator???
Hey everybody, I've made up a school presentation thingy. It started out life as a power point, but the conversion between open office and microsoft PP didn't work so well, so it's a PDF. I've tried to get all the permissions I could, but I just put this together this afternoon. If I've used...
I got the eggs set up in the incubator at my girl's school. It's been working flawlessly, although the janitor apparantly expressed some concern over there being of dynamite in the science lab LOL!
The whole school has gotten involved, and the announcement went over the PA system that the...
My eggs came today! (only 3 days late *sigh* stupid USPS)
One was broken and stinky :( The goo got on a couple of other eggs, so I had to clean those ones. I haven't candled them yet (I had to come squee to my chicken friends first!) But I'll be doing that as soon as my legs and knees stop...
One of my chickens started singing her egg song, for no particular reason, underneath my office window. I walked over, saw here there, and said "knock it off"! Which actually earned me an inquisitive "bok?", and then she stopped! HA! They do listen!
My town is an absolute HIVE of stray and feral cats. I do my best to protect my chickens, but there is only so much I can do. They're locked up tight today, and for the next several weeks I'm sure, because of the new neighbors and they're habit of feeding the ferals and strays.
Don't get me...
Waiting for my eggs to ship on Feb 14.
Run incubator to see if it holds temp
Run incubator to see if it holds humidity
Futz with the water trays
Figure out ways to improve the turning trays
Consider varnishing the box
Dismiss varnishing the box
Consider replacing the wooden lid with plexiglass...
I just placed my order for hatching eggs. (And I mean JUST) I went out side to see if anybody had laid, and sure enough, 3 out of 4 had laid, the first time in months. It's like they know they're being replaced...
My daughter wants to hatch chickens at school. The teacher is excited about the prospect, and so we've set it up that the middle of the month, we'll set up the incubator in the classroom.
But, the weekends :\ The eggs will be turned three times a day during the week, but that's not possible...
I've got 4 thermometers. The one I'm planning on using in my incubator has sat comfortably between 99-100 during my first couple of test runs. I figured I ought to check it for accuracy and got out my brooder thermometer. Well, it did *not* agree with the digital one. Not even close. We...
I have my hygrometer sitting in a plastic zip-loc bag with a cup containing 1/2c salt and 1/4c water.
What temperature should I let this sit at? Room temp? That's hovering in the upper 60s at the moment. Should I put it in the window to catch the sun? Or should I quit worrying LOL
