So.. one of the birds that I thought got taken by a hawk came back! It was my little bird named Miracle! Saw her coming running towards our house 1/2 acre away! She was gone for 2 days!
So.. to celebrate my joy....... 15 more chicks! 🤣
Two chicks just didn't thrive even though I tried a few things to perk them up. Also I think a hawk got to my adult bird.
To compensate for my grief I'll incubate all my serama eggs.
Looks like 3 out of the 41 chicks I got yesterday are not doing so well. 2 are Polish and even after feeding them egg yolk and making the drink some water, still not perked up. Then the other is a Houdan which overall seems to be OK but can't walk properly. I examined the chick nothing seems to...
Well, one of the chicks that I just got yesterday died. Little bummed. To compensate for my grief I am about to buy 25 more chicks... Silkies to be precise.
I am currently deducting what my mystery chicks are. What I first thought were Siklies are actually (2 of each) Buff and Black Cochins. I...
Got my mystery Bantam chicks today! Bought 25 and received 28! All healthy :) Looks like I got some Blue and Black Silkies, Old English Game (almost a 1/3 of what I have), and few I could guess as Orpington and maybe Japanese. Will know as they grow!
My 25 mystery Bantams shipped out yesterday! SSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited! My first time mail ordering chicks.
Also I just figured out something:
Chicken math is a lot like Common Core. If you can prove 2 chicks + 2 chickens = 40 chickens.. then 40 chickens you shall have! :p:D🤣
From Murrary McMurray the 40 are the Bargin Bin Special.. so it can be anything. From the most popular breeds to the most rare. Whatever that can't fulfill a complete order.
From Cackle, the 25 are a mixed Bantam but from Silkies to Japanese Bantams to Cochins.
I love a good mystery box!
Call me crazy.. but I just ordered and additional 25 chicks! More specifically a Bantam variety.
So lets do some chicken math:
21 adult birds
11 chicks in the brooder
25 coming this week
40 coming in two weeks
10 in the incubator (roughly)
=
107 chickens
Course nearly all are straight run so...
I've always hand turned my eggs and had great success. I also have a full time job. Just turn once in the morning when you get up and once in the evening before bed.
Since I am still here and not being a ghost... one of my new chicks is a Amberlink. Never heard of it until yesterday.
In the feed store these were the only chicks that were extremely calm and just sleeping. Now that it is with other chicks I noticed something very different. It does chirp a...
