I use leaves in my duck's enclosure. They love to play in them and it saves on hay. I put the leaves down on the floor and then put a light layer of hay. If I don't use leaves I have to use a lot more hay.
I am looking into getting some magpie hens. Can anyone tell me:
1. Do they fly (Or are they like Pekins, who fly like bricks?)
2. Are they as noisy as Pekins?
3. What color are their eggs and what size?
Thanks in advance!
Give her time. She will eventually get to where she lays almost daily. It may take a while for her to lay daily. I have a Kackie Campbell that is still not daily and she has been laying for about 2 months. Where the older Pekins and KC lay almost daily, except when they molt. They will stop...
They are all 3 hens. I don't have any drakes, I can't handle the "mating" dramas! The hens do a good enough job with it, I can't imagine if you threw a drake in the middle of it! LOL
These are the 3 new girls @Debs Flock. So far I have let them out of their enclosure with the 3 "old" Pekins. So far so good, no duck rodeos! They won't go up the ramp with me in the enclosure but they go up after I leave. Hopefully with time....
I am having to CONVINCE these 3 that they like peas. The lady said she only gave them peas when they were young. The pea trick is definitely true with my Pekins, but these girls....they're a real case. I am hoping with time! They are so wild when I go into their enclosure (7 feet away from them)...
@Administration
Is anyone else having trouble on the new website with the typing speed? Mine is terrible! I can hardly type at all without it stopping. I am not a fast typer anymore but this is terrible it can't even keep up when I type a word and sit! It has taken me almost 4 minutes to get...
My new KC girls are around 4 months old. They are old enough to have just started to lay, I have found 2 eggs in their enclosure for the past 2 days. It hasn't helped that I had catch one to medicate her eye! They are convinced I am going to kill them!
Me too! Having to catch her to doctor the eye was NOT endearing her to human association! These 3 new KCs are really wild! :flI just hope when I let them all out with the Pekins (that I have had for a few years)that I can get them all back into their enclosure at night! May be a duck rodeo! :barnie
My ducks won't have a thing to do with our pond, it has turtles in it. They won't even go down there any more, they prefer their kiddie pool that is cleaned every day! They are just spoiled!
Pretty Cayugas, black Swedish and I don't know what the other 2 are, but no video. :barnie
I am really having a hard time with the new website! I am NOT a fast typer but it can't keep up with me! Oh well, I'll just muddle on!
Is this a pond you made? We are trying to figure out how to make one...
@Ravynscroft I want to THANK you for your suggestion of the Terrimycin ointment. It worked like a champ! Obviously it wasn't a very bad infection, after the first application it looked better, I have continued it for 2 more days and it has cleared up! :weeThanks!!!!
:frow:ya Hi, yourself! How are you doing? I have been busy trying to convince my new KC girls that I am NOT going to kill them every time I go into their enclosure!! LOL They certainly are quiet compared to the Pekin girls I have!
M
Yes, you can find Terrimycin ointment at Tractor Supply. I just purchased some there this morning. It's terribly expensive! $14.99 for a thimble full! Hope it works! Thanks for the information.
If it's a Pekin, it will be around 6 months old before they lay eggs. But one of the KC ducks I got this past week layed an egg today, she is supposed to be only 3.5 months old. But I just got her so I really don't know when she was hatched. I find it hard to believe that at 3.5 months old they...
