Mallard would be logical for laying blue/green eggs... any other breeds that lay blue/green got that from their mallard derived base... :D ;) An all flock feed is best until they start laying... *most* Calls will wait til spring to start laying, but some can start in fall... smaller ones tend...

I do have Calls, quite a few... but currently they are not laying enough nor are there many fertile right now... Calls are seasonal layers/breeders, best time for eggs is in spring to early summer... Also, if you want guaranteed a certain quality, you are best off buying grown ducks... most...

:love :love Glad you and they are settling in well, but so sorry for Pip! :hugs :fl she heals up fine... check the girls' bottoms if you want to tell who is laying... active layers are a bit *pouchier* just below the vent...

Look on the actual ingredients list, not the box with the %'s, it should say Niacin in the listings... if it is very low down the list, then very little... higher up the list, like above the halfway mark, then should be fine... But at the age of yours, they usually would be showing leg...

Actually, most medicated feed in the US is just Amprolium so won't harm them, but just no need for it... a good all around feed for mixed flocks is Purina Flock Raiser if you can get it, can be fed from hatch to lay for both ducks and chickens... it is formulated with the higher Niacin content...

Just 2 ducks, once a week *should be* fine... just keep a separate container for fresh drinking water and change that daily/as needed... Good planning ahead... just remember, you will adjust what you do as you go and figure out what works best for them and you... :) Edit to add... I actually...

Once a day should be sufficient... will also depend on how many and how big the pool is... some do weekly pool cleanings and that is fine... will have to see what works for you... As for keeping ducks and chickens together, many do... I prefer to have separate coop/duck house, but mine free...

I have never mixed food in water for any of my ducklings, and I raise Calls, lol... just never leave them food without water as they need to flush it down and can choke with only dry food...

Replied.. :) Turmeric does have great boosting and healing properties, but as an effective dewormer, it is not... Sounds like yours may just be going into molt, egg production will drop or stop completely during that time... their bodies need the rest to concentrate on making new feathers...

Could possibly... or they could be going into molt... if you can, best to get a fecal float done and check for worms... I have found my ducks are much, much more susceptible to worms than my chickens... Vet can do a fecal or there are labs you can send in to... will have to look that up though...

What type of ducks are they all? And how old are they? Have you ever dewormed them? Worm overload *can* cause them to be skinny, j/s...

X2 Lots of time, patience and treats... While corn works, peas are a better choice for ducks... too much excessive corn builds up fat which *could* give them health issues later on in life... just fyi... :)

Beautiful!! :love Love the burrower, lol... Do you mean where they hang low, big keel? Most Rouens available at hatcheries are production Rouens... Rouens bred to the standard are huge, boxy/blocky looking and their keels are extremely deep... hangs down between their feet... Like these...

As soon as you can, start putting the youngest ones near the younger ones to 'get to know' each other... increase the time each day they get time around each other... when going to introduce them, if possible, make a new area for them and move the younger ones into it first... this creates...

Not yet... that's just a little scab, probably from a tiny split or cut... just soak in some warm epsom salt, see if the scab is easy to pop off and apply some clear iodine... Ones like that is best to soak and iodine BEFORE it becomes bumblefoot... good eye... :)

Nope... the only breed that is sexable at hatch by bill color is Welsh Harlequin, and even then they need to be from good breeder lines...
