    Japanese Bantam Thread!

We are breeding to a standard like the APA Standard or the ABA Standard. These are the standard for poultry breeding. If you were to be raising mini horses would you try to get them as tall as they could be? No, just like Japanese Bantams. The standard calls for short legs and defines what a...

    Japanese Bantam Thread!

Bill, I hope you mean that I wrote a book about Japanese Bantams, not 'THE' book. There are a lot of great Japanese Bantam Breeders out there, much better than I am. After all, you are the person that culled and picked the bird that won. I simply supplied you with some breeders. This discussion...

The Standard is not important if you like your chickens and don't intend to show them. Just enjoy them at home.

The tail should have black in the first feathers and also part of the wing feathers should have black in them.

The chick you are calling mottled is I believe a Black Tailed White not a Mottled. A mottled would have gotten mottled feathering from the start.

meepitqueenie, It looks to me as if you may be on the way to a Porcelain Japanese. Crossing a Porcelain any other breed with a Black Tailed Buff is the way to produce Porcelain Japanese. You have the Lavender and it looks like some buff in the lavender. Terry

    Japanese Bantam Thread!

If they are Japs, they have extremely long legs for the typical Jap. The top one looks like a gray, the mmiddle one may be somewhat like a Black Tailed Buff, and the bottom one probably is a White, but not typical Jap type. Just one example would be the tails. The tail of even Japs this young...

Quote: A lot of people have crossed Black Tailed Buff with Black tailed White for different reasons; to improve the Black in the wings and tail of their BTB's or the type they had in their BTW's was better than the type in their BTB's. Realize that positive results from crossing varieties and...
