Our pretty blue barred Easter Egger cockerel, Max, and several of his hatch mates trying to fit in the dust bath after I filled it with fresh dirt and wood ash.
We just love the Orloffs. They really hold their own even though their the smallest, and they're always the first to investigate anything new.
#2 has a bit of color to the comb and legs like tree trunks. The rest look a lot less roostery since we switched to the ceramic bulb. I think the red...
Here are our Lavender Orpingtons with a closer look at the combs. Forgot to get a closeup of the last one, but really no comb yet. @Sally Sunshine@Ur-ur-ur-urrr@sjturner79

They sure do! Can't believe our little princess will be three in a few months.
I'll take closeup pictures of the combs a little later today. The huge white Ameracauna cross tried to crow when we were outside. It was hilarious! I'm still hoping the little blue barred Ameraucana cross is a boy...
Thank you! So nice to see their pretty colors without the red light. I switched it out for a ceramic bulb while they were out. They fussed a bit when I turned the light out tonight, but we left a nightlight on in the room and they settled after about ten minutes. Hopefully they won't feel...
We took our almost two week old chicks outside today for the first time and stayed out for two hours! They absolutely loved it. Hated to have to bring them in since they were having such a wonderful time!
That's really good to know. I will be more patient. It's very warm here today so we're taking them outside for the first time this afternoon. Excited to see their colors in the natural light, especially the blue barred and the Lavenders :)
Thank you! They are very pretty. So, if two of them have quarter inch tall combs already, they might not be roosters? Or the ones I think are hens might be roosters too? Lol, I guess we'll just have to be patient, wait and see :) The one has a huge comb and serious attitude, so pretty convinced...
I think we have three Lavender Orpington roosters out of five chicks :( Does anyone have experience with this breed? Two have very prominent combs already and one has a small comb. Two have much more dainty heads and no combs.
Our May Hatchalong chicks will be two weeks old this weekend.
Princess Sofia caught Rosetta the Lavender Orpington rooster trying to escape. "She just wanted to see my gown, because it's LAVENDER!" :lau
We put a screen over their box and will be working on larger housing this weekend.
All...
Sorry, should have said there are purebred Lavender Orpingtons in there too :) Max is the darker one with the lighter patches and light head spot. He has definite barring on his wings, but it's dark grey and light grey, no white.
I'm new to chickens, so maybe he's not blue, lol! Here are a couple of pictures of him next to one of the two black chicks from the same mix.
And Daisy, who appears to be a splash Ameraucana mix, hogging the dust bath, because I can't even handle the cuteness :)
Thank you! So interested to see how Max feathers out. Would you call his color blue barred? He's such an interesting color to keep for breeding and he may have a blue egg gene. Unless I'm totally wrong and he turns out to be a pullet, lol!
Our little blue potential rooster, Minnie, was renamed Max. He appears to have barring on his wings, which means he's probably a Barred Rock/Ameracauna cross. He looks to have a pea comb and fluffy cheeks. Hoping he has a calm disposition if he is a cockerel. Would be an interesting mix to try...
They all love it! We found it in the dollar section at the hardware store. Best dollar I ever spent. So much bigger than the bird mirrors in the pet section, and cheaper too!
Svetlana is doing much better. She has been interacting normally with the others. Playing chase, eating and drinking...
Our smallest Russian Orloff, Svetlana has a watery eye this morning :( She was the one who pipped the wrong end of the egg and is almost a full day younger than the others. No goopy discharge or cloudiness, and she's not acting sick. Still eating, drinking, and grooming. I'm hoping it's just...
