I've noticed black birds tend to have some white feathers in their wings or anywhere else when they're young. Sometimes my silkies hatch with pink tips on their toes as well, but I don't know if that's related to the white feathers. Either way, they usually grow out of it within a couple of...
Hi all! I currently have 7 chickens in total, Cochin rooster, Rhode Island Red rooster + his mate, and the 4 others I think might be a silkie/EE mix? Or Maran/Silkie mix? Not too sure and would love to know your guesses? Also if you all agree that I think I might have 2 roosters out of the cross...
Hello! I have had 16 chickens in total, some have had to be given away, some has sadly passed away. I have 6 chickens, Chester a crazy cackle toppie, Chumi a classic red hen, Cat a black silkie, S'mores a white silkie, Gemini a white silkie, and Munchkin a white silkie. We've had them since June...
He is about 4 months old and is very gentle with the hens and our family (even with a toddler!) I would keep him but we aren’t allowed to have roosters. Located in Los Angeles!
What do you think of this white silkie rooster and the silkie hens (one black, one white, and one splash - or is the splash one white with leakage?) They are about 4-5 months on these pictures. I don’t have pictures of their feet, but they all have five toes and feathered feet.
I was gone a week and now my sweet pullet Rosie looks a bit off. She has more tail feathers than before. Her brothers have pretty chunky tail feathers that drop at the tip. Hers are pretty thin. Her crest is a bit more messy and her comb has grown a bit. I really hope that those aren't...
I mean, without breeding to white. I'm thinking about ordering some black silkies from Ideal Poultry and I wanna know if I'm getting a true black. They state on their website that their chicks are purebred so does that mean that the black silkies have no blue in their genes?
Thanks in advance.
I got a black Silkie bantam unsexed chick from Ideal Poultry that unfortunately has a crossed beak, that just recently became apparent, though it appears to be milk, and could improve with proper trimming. I'm giving him/her away for free, as well as a blue laced red Wyandotte bantam unsexed...
Hello BYC! A little about our flock: we have a black silkie rooster, a buff orpington hen, and 4 red sex link hens. Our orpington just hatched her first clutch of eggs (after 2 failed attempts). we are overjoyed, and look forward to this journey!
Is the egg that the red arrow is pointing to, a Silkie egg? It’s rather small, compared to the others. It would have come from one of these two chickens. I don’t know the sex of either one. I’m pretty sure naked neck is a roo because I’ve seen him crow. But then again, I’ve read on here that...
I have started a new flock of black silkies, two pure black girls and the rooster is black with slight gold leakage on his neck.... Can I expect pure black chicks or if I breed these can there be a variation? I am aware that the gold leakage may come through from the side but I am happy enough...
i realize they are a bit young but here are Butternut (white) and Squash (black). Butternut is the younger of the two at 8 Weeks, and this bird has done some play fighting with my sebright cockerel. Comb is just a single small ridge poking up for now. It is inquisitive and scratches and forages...
Just letting anyone raising any blue or black silkies in southern New Hampshire this year that I can home a rooster when you find out the gender. Currently my chicks are less than a week old (5/20) so no rush. I did not buy any black or blues as will plan to acquire one when someone wants to...
