BYC Debate Thread- What's The Friendliest Chicken Breed?

Pics
Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure mine would peck my eye out if given the chance lmao, it's so funny how yours can be so sweet, and mine is the spawn of Satan, but I love her none the less.
Well I can say the Australorp roo we had kicked my husband's butt every chance he got lol, so while the hens are sweet, he was evil. Ended up giving him to a shelter!

Based on my complete anecdotal experience, the Golden Comet chicks I got from TSC eleven years ago were the friendliest.

Definitely the "golden retriever" of chicken breeds. They were people seeking, calm and easily held, very outgoing and friendly even to guests. These behaviors were observed in most of the flock as opposed to a few select individuals.

I think I would place the Sultan up high on the list as well. I've only had three, but what sweet little characters they are. Very mild mannered, gentle and unobtrusive. Place one in a spot and they typically don't stray far from where they've been put. Always ready with a response when spoken too and accepting with anything asked of them (like a bath or nail trim).

I do agree that breeding and certain lines are very influential in the birds you get. What can be the nicest birds for one person, can be a complete disaster for another, all do to genetics.

This official BYC poll shows that over 75% of voters keep chickens mainly for pets. However, it's hard to keep chickens as pets if they run away from you when they see you, or they attack you. Many chicken owners dream for (or have) their perfect lap chicken. Individual chickens vary based on their personality, how they were raised, etc, but some chicken breeds are better pets than others. Now I want to hear from you: what is the friendliest chicken breed to humans?

agreed. It would be great if you edited those posts with some of these...
  • What is the friendliest chicken breed(s)?
  • Why do you think this?
  • What evidence can back you up? Threads? Articles?
  • What is your experience with this breed(s)?
  • What breeds are not very friendly? Why?
  • Anything else
What is the friendliest chicken breed(s)?
Green queens, Marans, and bantam cochins!

Why do you think this?
I have a bunch of Green Queens and they are SO FRIENDLY! Their personalities are great and they come in many fun colors and patterns like an EE. I have a rooster (Daddy Noodle) who's a banty cochin (possibly a mix, but I have no idea what with) and he's pretty friendly and nice to the hens, he's also the father of Thin Mint who looks exactly like a banty cochin except for the copper around her neck (from of her mother, a BCM). She is super sassy and really smart. Then I also have 3 silkie X bantam cochin roo's who are really nice except for one, who is a jerkface. And another bantam cochin hen mix (possibly with a SL Seabright) who is okay, but she is a baby killer (almost killed Thin Mint when she was hatching) so she looses some points. And finally Marans because I have 2 (Lavender birchen and black copper) and they are so sweet and just amazing birds!

What evidence can back you up? Threads? Articles?
For bantam cochins, this thread lol. Don't really have any for Marans/Green Queens except for my own birds!

What is your experience with this breed(s)?
I kind of combined this with the second question

What breeds are not very friendly? Why?
Old English Game Bantams. One of our hens likes to attack me for no reason. Everyone else is chill (even our roosters before they passed) but Daisy (meanie hen) hates my guts. She's out for blood.
