Is this penicillin okay to use?

Can I chime in to this very old thread with a question about Dura-Pen (Penicillin G benzathine: 150,000units; Penicillin G procaine: 150,000units), please?

I have a bantam just over 1 pound who needs abx, and the "units" part is concerning me because I am trying to determine how many mg are in each ml of this med, so I can determine the correct dose in ml to give. THOUGHTS? THANKS!

I would instead get Procaine Penicillin G (not benzathene, since that one is given every few days.) Most people use Procaine Pen G in chickens. give 1/4 ml (0.25ml) into the breast muscle once daily for 4-5 days . Alternate sides daily. Use a 20 gauge needle, but only insert it 1/4 inch deep. THANK YOU, Egg! I am going to soak her feet in warm water with Epsom salt and give her the injection. My KIND husband made a second trip to TSC to return the Dura-Pen and pick up some Penicillin G Procaine injectable. Keep a good thought for our sweet itty bitty little black bantam Cochin, Billy Jo. THANK YOU again!

The dose for poultry is about 30000 U/Kg. If your bird is 2 kg, the dose is 60,000U. At 300,000 U/ml, that is about 0.2 ml. Once a day. Birds are susceptible to procaine toxicity though. Why not dose oral meds? They are easy and probably safer.
What dose oral? Is it liquid or pill dissolved in water?

This thread is about injectable penicillin. Amoxicillin or Fish Mox would be an oral alternative that might work. What type of infection are you wanting to treat?
I believe a hen had lash egg and prolapse and was severely pecked at vent. Leavened her up but anted to avoid any internal infection.

If you look at your feed store or TSC, you might find Fish Mox on the shelf. You may buy it online as well. Dosage is 250 mg once or twice a day for a 5 pound chicken. Have you seen any lash eggs? Those can be a sign of salpingitis. Can you post a picture of how the vent looks? Is the prolapse staying inside?

The vent looks ok this morning. I do believe there was a lash egg as well, when cut it was like congealed blood or liver.
