During shipping I bet those eggs were in many different directions.... I've never seen a hen on a nest stand them pointy end down. They were always flat and it was interesting to watch mama hen roll them over in all sorts of directions.

I've only had one broody hen and she didn't do good, she broke eggs in the process of rolling them. When I'd go check on her eggs I'd always find at least one broken but she still tried very hard.

What kind of nest was she setting in? How large of a hen is she?

The only time I've had a hen break eggs was when she was huge. I have a hen that is the heaviest in the flock. A big Cuckoo Marans. She weighs more than the rooster at over 8 pounds. She crushed all but one egg during her incubation AND I don't think I had enough soil/bedding in her nest to cushion the eggs for such a large hen. I named the lone hatched chick Miracle.

That's adorable.
Our girl is a Sussex and she's not that big. And we used lots of straw for the bedding
