I got this beautiful chicken from a guy who had too many and he said it was a hen. I've only ever had one rooster in my life, and I don't remember much about what he looked like growing from chick to cockerel (I was 10), but he had some great, vibrant colors, and reminds me a lot of this chicken I just got, so I'm having my doubts. Any thoughts? It's a mixed breed, so there's nothing super helpful to go off of.

No, I just got him 2 weeks ago. Thanks for your help!
I'm so sorry. I'm guessing he was dishonest. I can't imagine that he didn't know that was a cockrell if he has any experience at all. Sometimes I'm pretty obstinate when I want one of my own to be a pullet, but I'd never pass one on to someone else as a hen! But he is very beautiful so all is not lost. I hope he has a pleasant personality.

He is absolutely beautiful, but there's no way the original owner (if he knew anything at all about chickens) could have missed his hackles and saddle and sickle feathers, and your boy is displaying all! The sickle feathers, in my experience, have always come in last. In my opinion, the original owner has known for at least a couple of months that your "hen" isn't a hen at all!
