Bone (?) growing out of her wattles?

Try rubbing it with coconut oil, and maybe get ti to soften? All the swelling around it, is that swelling or debris? If it is debris, then see if you can get it to come off.
I just noticed today that my 5 month hen seems to have a bone or something growing out of her chin. When I pull it to the side it looks like raw flesh under it. There is sand stuck to one side. I don’t know what it is or what to do. Any thoughts on what this could be?
So it is her tongue sticking out along with some sort of lump below it. It’s all pretty scabbed over. Inside her mouth was kind of gooey. I cleaned it up the best I could, but I don’t think there’s much I can do but clean her up.

She’s our biggest chicken. Not sure how to tell if a chicken is skinny or not, but behaviorally, you would never know that she has anything going on.
What breed? Do you have a scale? Weight yourself, then step off, grab the chicken and ge back on. Who ever much more you weigh after grabbing her form you origional weight, she weights.

Sapphire gem. My scale only weighs to 1/2 lbs. can’t imagine that would work in this situation.

It may have been some sort of injury or attack that made the hole under her beak. I would try to get it cleaned up by bringing her in and either bathing her, or concentrate on just the gunky area under her beak. You will need to rub on it with a cloth or rag, and something like Hibiclens or plain dish soap would be good to clean it with. A turkey baster or kitchen sprayer would be good to spray it out. It This may take a couple of tries with another pair of hands helping to hold. Once it is cleaned up and debrided, take another picture or two, and apply some plain antibiotic ointment. Chickens have suffered tongue injuries in some past threads, and could eat without a tongue. I hope that she makes it.

Thank you. I cleaned it up. I’ll do it again tomorrow and will put antibiotic ointment on too. This is the picture after she was cleaned up. She doesn’t smell good. While nothing looks infected, everything was very gooey. When I pull her tongue to the side I can see the soft pink tissue that would normally be in her mouth. It’s all so weird.

Can you clean off the debris that is on top of her tongue? If you can, then maybe you can slide her tongue back in her mouth, and it will get soft again, with all the moister in her mouth.
