Caramel Queen......is what they are called in the Lower Mainland....what do you know them by?

Hello! What do you call these two cuties? I looked up Caramel Queens here, but only saw Cinnamon Queens....are they the same?

Today 2 new babies came home! They are Caramel Queens that originated from True North Farms nearby in Langley......I got them in exchange for a mix up on 2 RIR I purchased 4 weeks ago that turned out to be cockerels...and not pullets.... Anyhow! Here are the wee ones! From what I have read, the females are brownish at hatching and the males are yellowish.....They sure are tiny! Today is their first jaunt on the grass...they are going to be kept separate from the big gals for the rest of the summer....in the side by side coop...

Brown or Red Sexlinks each hatchery uses their own special crosses and give them different names.

Actually Caramel Queens (not to be confused with Cinnamon Queens which is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links) are not a typical Red Sex Link cross which are produced by crossing red gene cockerels with silver gene hens. Instead of using the traditional red gene cockerels (RIR, NH, or PR), Caramel Queens are sex links in which a Welsummer rooster is crossed with a Light Sussex hen to produce the sex linked offspring. As far as I know, this particular sex link cross (which is an uncommon one) is not marketed under any label other than Caramel Queens.

How pretty! They have the Welsummer hens' salmon chest color all over and they have the Sussex' columbian pattern.

Wow! I have soooooooo much to learn! I just put the babies to bed in their large dog crate (filled with shavings and topped with straw) and attached their new feeder/waterers so they will be fine until I get up tomorrow..... We are expecting a storm tonight, so I wanted them tucked safely into their coop/run (which is side by side with the big girls)....too much freedom right away after what they were in may be too much???

The Queens are so lovely! They are big beautiful, a bit flighty, but excellent layers and so pretty! They get along with all the other girls!
