Hey guys,
So I would LOVE to get a goat, but are they all, like 150.00 dollars??????!!!! Does anyone know anyone that is trying to rehouse Nigerian Dwarf Goats for cheap in Georgia? If not, it's okay. Thanks in advance!

You could check Craigslist, sometimes people are selling goats there.

You might want to ask yourself why you want goats, and what your goals are. That will help you narrow down how you should approach this, which gender to search for, what is the best type for your goals etc. I would also suggest you spend some time learning about goats and their personalities and needs. For example, you don't want just one goat... they are a flock or herd animal that lives in social groups. Goats are prey animals and they know that it's the lone goat that gets eaten by the wolves or lions, so when they are all alone, most of them are terrified. When there is at least one other goat there, that helps them feel more secure.

I dearly love goats - all goats - and I hope you can eventually get goats.

I have goats and the most I've spent on one is $120. She is a registered mini lamanchas. If you're willing to wait until spring, I'll have some baby goats. Mine aren't Nigerian Dwarf, but they are minis. They're two mini lamanchas and two are Boer mixes who were bred by a mini lamancha. As long as everyone took. Getting a mixed goat or a wether is the only way to get a cheap goat. I know someone who sells Nigerian dwarfs in Macon and I don't think hers are $150. I can give you her info. But I'm not sure she has babies right now.

I am from Ga, $150 for a goat is great! Haha

I have a some in my Boer herd that cost 10 times that amount. But those are ABGA Registered Show Goats.

With my Nigerian Dwarf Herd, I sale wethered pet quality kids for $175. And Does are $300+. But I am just starting up that herd, so I don't have the bloodlines that I want yet. They are new so I am still building up my lines.

If you are just wanting pets, not Milking/Showing/Breeding stock, try Craigslist. You can find some small Pygmy/Nigerian Crosses on there for cheap if you look around. Might not be true "Nigerian Dwarf" or 100% "Pygmy", but as pets all breeds and mixes are fun to have haha. They are all crazy fun hyper puppy personality babies if raised right.

It's best to get more than one though, they will drive you crazy and won't be very happy all alone. Make sure you get healthy goats from someone who knows what they are doing. Or you will end up bringing on worms and diseases on to your land, along with sick goats.

Another thing, if you get boys as pets. Make sure you get them wethered/banded/castrated cause they smell awful and can get an attitude if not. Horns can also be an issue, getting stuck in fences and it doesn't feel great to get poked by them either.

The ones in the ad look great! Already dehorned, look healthy, look small, and great prices! :) Hard to find some like that, with that low of a price. Seems like they are already friendly too.

I go against the grain. I like horns and hate disbudding. Though I only have one with horns right now. Horns make them easy to catch and hold on to. ;-)

@Mylied: LOL! :gig

I expect that's because you've never had to go out every single hour of every single day and "save" a goat that has stuck its head through the fence and is trapped. Or had a goat that was trapped by its horns killed by a dog ripping its face to shreds. Or had to do stitches on a goat opened up by another goat's horns. Or nearly had your eye taken out by a goat's horn. Or had the oddest marks on the backs of your legs from your goat's horns... :D

Well, I have. Holy cow does it all ever suck. I have to milk twice a day no matter what. My life has been SO much more peaceful once I started disbudding! I hate disbudding with a passion but I have to admit - it makes life so much easier for both me AND the goats. I resisted at first, but now that I've had disbudded goats I will never go back. Just my experience, yours may differ! :)
