Chicken sneeze or cough? w/video

How much ventilation in your coop?

She's eating/drinking?
Getting a fecal float to check for worms would be a good idea and make sure her crop is emptying overnight.
Loads of ventilation, it is a very airy coop built for Texas weather. Just had another one of the flock checked for worms and she came back clear. I’ll double check crop tonight and in morning. But I keep a general eye on crops and I think I would have noticed if she had issue there. I’ll treat flock for worms just to be safe.
thanks for suggestions!
BTW, just checked on her again, watched her for about 15 mins, no more coughs (or whatever that was).
Will update tomorrow:) wasn’t it nice of her to show you her throat?!

Not good this evening. She had taken a turn for worse and was gasping for breath. i have her some meloxidyl for pain and inflammation. It’s all I had. If she survives the night I will get antibiotics and dewormer. If not, I will send her for necropsy. Gotta know what’s happening!
But for the moment, the meloxidyl and a bit of water from a syringe seem to have perked her up. No longer gasping for breath.
We have her in the house in a dog crate for the night. 🙏

She had another spell during the night that did not last as long as the previous spell and she didn’t appear to be dying as before. She did have a large amount of diarrhea. (And I have a few others with dirty poopy bottoms.) Right now she is out in the sick pen walking around, eating, drinking and wanting back in with her friends. So yay!
we are off to the farm store to get antibiotics and deworming. We will treat the whole flock with the deworm. And keep the antibiotics on hand as needed.

How did her crop feel this morning? She was really gasping for air in the video. Most feed stores do not carry the right antibiotics for a respiratory disease. About all they might have is oxytetracycline ((LA 200 or other brand) that is injectable. Those are for cattle and are injected once every 3 days, and long acting. If her disease is from a virus or mold, then the antibiotics don’t help. A virus may take weeks to get better. It may help symptoms of a bacterial respiratory disease or mycoplasma (MG.) Sometimes you can get Tylosin to put in the water from here:

Doxycycline, Denagard, and Baytril or enrofloxacin are others that can be effective against MG. There is always an egg withdrawal time of 2-4 weeks depending on the medication used. I hope that she gets better because the gasping must be scary.

Crop was totally empty this morning. She hasn’t done anymore of the gasping since about 3:30 am. She has now had nutridrench and dewormer. She is eating and drinking. But still moving around a bit slow.
the gasping was so scary! We thought she was gone once, eyes closed and limp. My BF kept massaging her and she came to. I call home the chicken whisperer. He is amazing. 🥰

This is what we ended up getting. Our feed store was out of the goat safeguard. They did have the ivermectin for horses but I thought that might be complicated.
I am wondering how most of you administer these capsules. I mixed s bit of boiled egg and yogurt with the contents of one tablet and fed that to the hens individually. But the Roo just picks it up and drops it while calling his hens to come get it! How do I get this into him? Bless his heart. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Well, we'll have to get @Eggcessive and @casportpony to help check this. I doubt one capsule is going to be a correct dose.
