Hi group,
My nesting boxes do have a little lip to them but clearly not enough of one because I can't keep any litter in the boxes. They throw it out. I didn't much care that they did that until we started seeing cracked eggs everyday. They're just slightly cracked so it doesn't look like any of the girls are doing it on purpose. I'm wondering if I've got girls who are laying while standing up and thus causing the little spider web cracks that we're getting. I don't know. I haven't caught them doing it so I have no idea what's causing it.
They've got plenty of outside roaming area, they eat the grass and the shrubs, we've got good water, a natural feed that's a layer blend, they've got oyster shell mixed into their food and a secondary bowl of it on the side. I just don't understand! I've got five girls and we get 2 cracked eggs a day. Again, it's just tiny little hair line cracks but if I'm not really gentle with the egg *I* end up breaking the darn thing! Driving me crazy. Thoughts?
