Maybe they were just "bluffing" :lau when they gave the ducks away ❣️ At least there are 2 to keep each other company. So cute...

You don't want domestic duck breeds swimming away to wild environments where they are not equipped for survival. My Mom penned her domestic ducks & chickens except not her geese who were free cuz they did not wander from the property & were excellent guardian geese w/ their honking warnings.
If Buffs or Buff Orpingtons are what they are, I looked those up and they seem to be more like a Muskovie, happy to splash around in the same area and not swim off to investigate like Mallards and other breeds do. We shall see!

I was thinking I'd only have silkies. I wanted ducks, but we have a creek behind our house, so was afraid they'd swim away. I did find out Muscovies usually stick around better, so figured someday I'd get a couple of those.

A couple of weeks ago, someone an hour from here had to give up their pair of ducklings. They couldn't find anyone to take them, and word of mouth to my hubby's daughter, wound up having someone drop them off here. So, I have ducks! They said they were Bluffs. There is no such thing, so must've meant Buff's, or Buff Orpington ducks. I guess we'll find out when they grow up.

Oh they are darling! 🥰🥰

The FIRST buff chick ever hatched yesterday!

I am still ecstatic as I've been trying since February. The buff rooster I had in there must've been too young, or just couldn't manage to do it right, and the other one I have is his sibling so figured the same thing with him. I waited to get the lemon cuckoo rooster from Bobbi Porto, Florida, and after he acclimated to Wisconsin, I put him (Lester) in with the three buff hens. Seeing a lot of infertiles with him too, but yesterday, history was made here! ❤️ One made it! Should be many more in the future!

Thank you! I have a hard time dragging myself away from the brooder. She's in there with 14 others that hatched, and I just have eyes for her! I've waited so long!

The rooster that was in with the hens before was from hatching eggs last year from Bobbi too, so not sure what the issue is. :idunno

Did you try giving vent trims?? Thats the only thing I can think may help?

I've not done it with any of the others, and they're pretty much all fertile. But I have heard of others that do that. I guess I could give that a try as it doesn't hurt a thing.
