our dog Duke 12,will be our last, will he be the last for ever? I think while we are travel-y he will be. If we get to the point where we don't want want to travel, I would like to get a blue heeler, because they are really trainable. But they are not good with small children.

Rottweiler - Versatile breed and can do many jobs, original breed for herding, protection and family dog
Louisiana Catahoula is the official dog of Louisiana and an American breed. Great dog breed for active families and people who like to hunt. They are breed for hunting and you can hunt anything with them.

Neither of these are a great idea for someone with very limited experience with dogs. Extremely protective and energetic breeds which can easily go very wrong in the wrong hands. Which OP is. Only ever had one Golden which is vastly different from these breeds.

I never owned a dog before I had a Rottweiler and had no issues. Rottweilers are calm dogs and observe before they react.

No matter what breed or mix, you need to be consistent when training a dog. All dogs need training and the smaller the more important to train them or you will have to deal with the small dog syndrome. There are many ways now how to train a dog and it will be good to look it up.
