My Dominique are laying very well right now. These are non hatchery. Beautiful birds that are great in the cold weather!!
You can easily sex right after hatch!

Dominique are not sex linked. They are auto sexing.

Sex linked: combining a specific roo of one specific breed (such as RIR) with a hen of an other specific breed (such as PBR) to produce a black sex linked chick which can be gender ID at hatch. The females will be all black, the males will have the barred pattern of THEIR MOTHER, thus a white head spot. You must repeat the same breeding with each generation to produce a sex linked bird.

Auto sexing: The chicks, in a good strain can be gender ID at hatch b/c of tell tale coloring in feathers and even shanks or beaks. Barred birds are auto sexing b/c the females have darker barring, darker shanks, a more distinct head spot at hatch. PBR and Doms are auto sexing. If you produce successive generations of either, the successive generations will be auto sexing until you mix an other breed into your gene pool.

Thank you for your response to the question. I just saw this and couldn't respond fast enough. This is an excellent explanation!
