I am not that good at reading X-rays. The grit is low down, but probably in the gizzard. I have seen X-rays of intestines being full of grit when. Chicken has been eating a lot. The mass is close to the oviduct. Could it be a cancer? Here is a good picture of the organs:

I have not read everything, got to page 6.

I have a thread of our girl, HeadHen, and doughy/kneady crop. We did the monistat(equate) twice a day for seven days--i squeezed about 1/4-1/2 inch on my finger, tucked her under my legs kneeling, opened her mouth and wiped it on the inside of her top beak (after the first day she refused the yogurt like she knew it was in there lol).

She does have a bra. And we did use NurtriDrench, Senokot (3 days), stool softener without laxative, coconut cooked scrambled eggs with more coconut oil on top. I cooked up the eggs, added the coconut oil, Nutridrench, Senokot, mixed it, set her on porch and she ate it all.

Day three and her water balloon crop went down to doughy, and she started eating, moving, pooping. Day 7 of eggs/coconut oil/monistat and she still had a pendulum crop but it was no longer doughy. After months of trying, she's closer to her old self.

We did get Acidified copper sulfate from jedds and plan on trying to give her that.

I hope your little one gets better!

I’m sorry you haven’t had much luck getting this little one’s digestive system clear… so you’ve tried molasses flush, stool softener and the digestive enzymes? And meds for the yeast overgrowth.

Moro’s carrot soup is a good option for assisting digestion and restoring the digestive micro biome. I’ve had success getting things to move along with fennel tea as well.

I had an older hen go into GI stasis and euthanised. She was re-homed to me a year earlier. She had chronic issues with her digestion but was able to cope with supportive care — up until she didn’t anymore.

If you wanted to take a risk you could give her Coca Cola to try to dissolve the grit. But there may be implications from the calcium that is released as the grit breaks down.

Medications like metocloprimide can assist with delayed crop emptying and GI motility.

Try to encourage her to move to help her digestive system work. You can also carry her around the yard/house and then push her to walk a few steps afterwards to see if that helps her expel anything.

Would those X-Rays have shown tumours in the organs? I read another thread here with a similar presentation, a young bird as well, and upon necropsy was found to be riddled with tumours in most organs except reproduction organs.

My only other thought is if she was affected by coccidiosis or worms and there is inflammation in the digestive tract preventing movement. But sounds more like that she gorged on straw, got blocked up and ate too much grit to try to get it moving. That or a different underlying issue like tumours.

UPDATE:
Bandit is not good.
I went back to the vet yesterday and they gave her fluids. And sent off a fecal test. Who knows if she'll even still be alive by the time those test results come back. I thought they were going to do a quick float test. Ugh. I ordered the stuff to do my own float test off Amazon. It'll get delivered tomorrow so if she's even alive by then, I'll do one myself.

She's worse today. So skinny. Ate only a couple bites of egg. Now not eating. I'm so sad. I've done all I know to do. And spent lots of money at the vet with nothing helping. I'm still giving her her meds (amoxi, Meloxicam for pain and inflammation, miconozole for yeast - last day of that is today) and just keeping her full of water with some nutridrench in it.

What's odd is now I have another hen acting lethargic and not eating as of Wednesday evening. She was fine Wednesday morning. Then noticed her just standing with neck tucked in Wednesday evening. Thursday morning not eating and slow moving. Wtf is going on! Now all of this has me wondering if this is something contagious (mereks??) or is that just a coincidence. One thing to note is that with my newly sick one, that day I put out a new bowl of grit because they had knocked the old one over a few days ago. They all seemed to be eating a lot of grit when I put the new bowl out. But nobody else is messed up, even after eating the grit! So now I'm wondering if it's something contagious?

I started corrid yesterday thinking mayyyybe Bandit has coccidiosis? I figure she's dying anyway so it couldn't hurt to exhaust all of my toolkit. Hasn't helped her. 😔

I wish there was a simple test for merek BEFORE the animal dies and before the necropsy.
