We bent ours at an angle to deter flying over even more. Netting attached with zip ties. I don’t remember what DH used to attach the green poles to the chain link fence.

I was just at a breeders that had 4 foot chain link run at least 50ft x50 ft he had cemented in a tall pole in the middle and had poultry netting zip tied all around the fence and over the 10 foot post in the middle .Like a circus tent.

You just need one high point , but just remember the grass will last 8-10 days with chickens anyways , mowing won’t be needed :)

Thank you everyon for the replies! It really helps to get other perspectives on it.

I haven’t been able to do anything yet besides order the stakes, it’s a lot cheaper to get a couple 10 packs than it is to buy them individually. Of course it’s going to take almost two weeks to get them because they don’t carry them store near us.

If I could do this on my own, that’s what I would do. It would add a fun atmosphere to the yard, I wonder how hard it would be to put a giant post in...

You can buy angled extensions for chainlink fences. They bolt on to the existing posts.
To double the height buy double the extensions and reverse the second one.
If you weave posts through a chainlink fence, each set of diamonds you push the pole or post through will tighten the fence. It is very unlikely you will get enough poles through the diamonds without having to add to the length of the fence to give you enough slack.
It is very easy to add a length of chainlink fence.
Locate one vertical section and unbend the top and bottom so the ends are free of the adjacent row.
Get some steps to stand on and twist the section which will start to rise (twist in the right direction) eventaully that section will wind out. To repair, just wind a new section in to join two pieces of fence.
In the picture above, they are chainlink panels which are different to a chainlink fence.

Mine was just really simple. I threaded the green tomato pole thru the weave of the chain link, didn't even go all the way to the ground. Then I took a length of bird netting, maybe 2'wide, and just threaded the weave of the netting over the poles. It stays pretty well on it's own. I don't worry about it being tight, loose works too. They see it and don't try to go there. Easy to remove later, too.

I needed to increase the height of my farm fence and I didn't use any upright support. The chickens were flying over the 4 foot fence to get in the garden. I got some more farm fence and overlapped it a little more than a foot on the existing fence. I used wire to connect them about every two feet. Worked like a charm and they stay in their run now. Here's some pics. Good Luck!
make fence taller.jpg overlap the fencing to make taller.jpg :frow
