I’m up early to listen to the music of my beloved Mr Wyandottey (Rudy the roo) I call him by both names. He’s a good roo. But I have to feed him separate from the rest. He needs nourishment too. He tidbits a bit too much, and I don’t understand why, he’s a beautiful roo and shouldn’t have to bribe his girls. :idunno
He’s even sexually aggressive with little Nacho, but that’s what comes with being here in my coop! I have had no further contact with that neighbor about Nacho or the littles. IMG_5168.jpeg

I am sorry your weather has turned extreme. It’s hard on both humans and animals these extremes in temps.

Question to everyone:

How do you keep your chooks cool in the heat of summer?
My chooks stay cool under the shade of the Mimosa tree and Barn. They also turn into ducks and live in the creek.

I have no creek, but when it gets hot, my backyard turns into a water park. I even supply little inner tubes for the “wake around the lake “ my birds deserve the best. And give me the best (when I can find their hiding places)

Ok, off to work everyone have a great day. I will get caught up this evening. I saw I was tagged in a post involving questioning Marans chicks. I will say whether they are full Marans or Mixes, if they pop the combs that young, and I think I saw wattles, those 2 are boys. Marans genetics in my opinion and experience....combs and wattles pop before 3 weeks of age, you have a boy.

I have decent shade for them when the big tree is in leaf and I sometimes damp down an area of bare dirt.
In extreme temperatures I have used a low tech swamp cooler using wet sheets/towels and a fan. It actually works even though it is usually quite humid here in the summer.
