Look at this diva. I know I've already shown this photo before, but I use up new chicken photos so quickly, so here we are again.

Look at those beautiful chickens. Do not let them fool you though, they are plotting world domination. You see, now we have this available....

All we are waiting on is one of your loyal subjects to go broody and they can have a dozen of these tiny orbs sent to your coop. You are wise and know everything that your subjects are thinking. You know one of them is plotting hatching chicks this year. Who is it going to be? Will it be a repeat offender in Sydney or Lady Featherington? Will Hattie or Aster or even her majesty herself take up the call of motherhood?

You let me know oh great queen and your humble servant @BY Bob will see that whoever it is gets a dozen right away. I promise you will not regret it. You will have your own army of tricksters at your beck and call. They will be ready for mischief and any sort of games you can think of.
Aurora wants to know why you are calling those THINGS chickens. She says they are close to squirrels than chickens. Those cannot be feathers.

I wondered how to make a chicken splint. I wonder how fast those can be ordered...

so I found some tongue depressors, but cardboard would be better? I have that. Tackling it in the morning, too tired tonight. He's eating and drinking well but can't put weight on leg yet. He tries and it gives way under him.
Amazon has a lot of splint styles but making your own asap is best till an order arrives. They didn't have splints/boots in the old days & we had to figure how to do it ourselves. But the new Amazon styles are amazing & save a lot of fiddling time/stress on the bird 💕

Came home to more mugs...in a moment...

But first....end of an aerial battle. While walking Sherlock (after the mugs), had a dogfight overhead. I was so wrapped up in watching that I forgot to take pics/vid until it was almost over.View attachment 4092815above the tree center of pic: a red tailed hawk is getting thoroughly beat up by a single crow. I'm guessing the mate is sitting on a nest, but I've no idea where. It ranged from the open field near the blue horse trailer to over the hedge and spruce trees to over the house, the chickens' favorite area, the coop and then the olives on the opposite side of the coop. A nest inside the spruce trees seems likely. The hawk gave up and let the wind carry it farther off. The crow proceeded to do some light swoops (like scooting over the wave tops) back up the valley towards the spruce trees. Chickens were unconcerned.

Now for the mugs

Right side: Hyacinth and a Lark butt bomb.
I repeat...like a broken record...I ❤️ CROWS! For 14 yrs they've been our neighborhood protectors. Never bothered our yard or hens!

There we go my friends. If that does not draw the queens wrath upon myself and distract her from any shenanigan's going on in her own coop for a couple weeks nothing will.
Well played. But if no one goes broody this year because she won't allow it, I will be back to remind you.

Hens are not going to be happy w/ this planted tomato ~ DH bird-netted the whole raised bed to keep hens out. Hope to add another tomato & some cukes next.

Garage wall front yard ~ Zucchini plants not bird-netted. Zucchini can't be planted in the backyard where the hens are cuz zuccini can't be bird-netted ~ birds bees butterflies have to have access to cross pollinate.
