These littles are making me and mama crazy 🤪. They are going everywhere. Exploring and finding dangerous places for little chicks to be going. Outside is worse with 12 hungry stray cats just waiting for a free chicken dinner
Thing about baby chicks is, if they get quiet all of a sudden, they’re up to something!

Lots of patience and love sent your way! Many changes can happen through the end of high school. Hang in there and support is the best thing you can do! Congrats to Rosie for her great ACT score! I've got an 11th grader who is pretty set on going to a small-ish college around Detroit, but she's finally decided to listen a little bit to us and going to a community college first to fill up her prerequisites. Saves a lot of money in the long run. She wants to be an ER doctor, so she has a long road ahead.

Here's a pic of my rescue flock doing their best impression of "dead." They are Ayam Cemani x Australorp mixes.
They are beautiful 🥰

@RebeccaBoyd

Tried for a raise of 2, but someone wouldn’t cooperate… so I was only able to raise you 1….

Now where is Clyde…?

Collecting and putting those little creatures back in the brooder box was a chore. Now if I can find some energy, I’ll go check on the other birds in the yard.
If I could only harness the energy that one of those chicks have, I would bet that I could light up Chicago!
Every night I have to chase down and put the youngsters to bed here. They have so far not wanted to roost in the hen house on their own. Tomorrow I will finish enclosing the stall walls so they can’t roost there anymore.

I will support any decision she makes as far as college goes.

From my perspective as a parent, I feel going away and living in a dorm setting will be wonderful for her. She needs a little taste of "mommy is not always going to be right next door". This is hard for me to say that as she has also looked into University of Pikeville which is literally 5 minutes away. They offer criminal justice and computer forensics which she is still interested in. Between the financial aid options she can do all 4 years with very minimal costs and is the most affordable right now. The drawback, even for her freshmen year she can stay at home. It is a good school though so if she chooses it that is great.

She has considered University of Kentucky and Transylvania University. Both great options and only 3 hours away. I will not let her hear this but the thought of her living in Lexington scares me to death. Lexington is rough and nightly on the news when I tune in it is always stories of shootings. I myself need to learn to "let go" so to speak as a parent.

University of Georgia has always came up in conversations since she was about 11. I do not know why but she has Georgia on the brain and it is still almost front and center. It is a couple states away which gives this momma a little internal grief but at least she will be on the same coast as me.

Personally, I am a huge fan of Morehead. Morehead is a college town but it is not nearly as rough as Lexington.

I am just thankful at the moment she has not mentioned Louisville once. I know it is a great school but good grief the crime, it is worse then Lexington. You can also just shoot me now if out of the blue she decides to head out west to California. I'm sorry no offense to those that live out there, but, please do not even go there Rosie.
My youngest went to Louisville for undergrad. It was a great education for her. She is now an assistant Attorney General for the state of Michigan. That's over 7 hours from us. It was a good education and she survived without getting into any serious scrapes. They have done a lot to improve safety in the area around the university and there is university housing.
