Of course, here's the back. I would love for you all to see what chickens are inside this calendar. There are even quotes alongside the picture of each different breed. Funniest thing I've seen today.

Also, I just checked and the photo isn't so clear. If you want me to type up the quotes for each breed, I'll be happy to do so. Not now, since I have to go to sleep, but tomorrow I will.

I will support any decision she makes as far as college goes.

From my perspective as a parent, I feel going away and living in a dorm setting will be wonderful for her. She needs a little taste of "mommy is not always going to be right next door". This is hard for me to say that as she has also looked into University of Pikeville which is literally 5 minutes away. They offer criminal justice and computer forensics which she is still interested in. Between the financial aid options she can do all 4 years with very minimal costs and is the most affordable right now. The drawback, even for her freshmen year she can stay at home. It is a good school though so if she chooses it that is great.

She has considered University of Kentucky and Transylvania University. Both great options and only 3 hours away. I will not let her hear this but the thought of her living in Lexington scares me to death. Lexington is rough and nightly on the news when I tune in it is always stories of shootings. I myself need to learn to "let go" so to speak as a parent.

University of Georgia has always came up in conversations since she was about 11. I do not know why but she has Georgia on the brain and it is still almost front and center. It is a couple states away which gives this momma a little internal grief but at least she will be on the same coast as me.

Personally, I am a huge fan of Morehead. Morehead is a college town but it is not nearly as rough as Lexington.

I am just thankful at the moment she has not mentioned Louisville once. I know it is a great school but good grief the crime, it is worse then Lexington. You can also just shoot me now if out of the blue she decides to head out west to California. I'm sorry no offense to those that live out there, but, please do not even go there Rosie.
Literally anywhere in the world nowadays is hardly safe to tread, but Calif is not just wacko, scholarships don't go far here as living expenses & groceries are high. We're in walking distance to a 2-yr college campus plus a Christian university w/ high Asian enrollments & most those students are very dedicated & make our resident college kids struggle to compete.

So much to ingest about higher learning institutions. I don't know how your local colleges operate but my DD was qualified to take local college classes at 15 while still attending high school! Nice way to get a foot in the college door early & cheaper to get required subjects out of the way & then transfer credits to a uni later for the graduate degree.

Just 🙏🙏🙏 for our kids cuz it's a lifelong worry once we're parents ~ it was all I could do then when I was a single parent ❤️

Though it's work too, we like being parents of these kinds of kids now...

Yesterday was my first day off this month. Really glad that I won't be working such a stretch again soon. Eighteen days with only 1 day off is too many!
Last week Cassia decided to try out crowing, I told her that while she had a rather good and lovely crow she was a hen and it was better if she focused on laying eggs instead.

Now for my sad news. Ruca passed away in the dark hours between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. We had 14 years together, she was around 18. Rest in peace beautiful dinosaur. 2007-4/3/2025

Wow! What a good life she had & w/ the other house pets mingling :hugs

❤️ Love that last photo of Ruca!

All four coops are cleaned, sprayed with that lovely citronella scented bugspray, and have fresh bedding. Don't tell my kiddo that the chick coop is cleaned, because she won't get more chicky babies for a while yet. Buffy yelled and growled at me when I scooched her and Marble to the run extension, but I gave her some extra straw to scratch through. The seeds (rye?) Are opening in the straw so it's extra fun for the chicky birds.

Lexington aside, U of Kentucky is a great school with lots of resources for students.

Sounds like she has lots of great choices. I am sure it will all work out whatever she chooses. Gosh, kids grow up fast.
