Thank youNice color/pattern assortment...those SFHs will grow way bigger & faster than those little Silkies!
I agree there is no better way to be distracted ~ a broken tooth is no picnic! Your project hatch will/should be therapeutic. In my case w/ a broken arm in a splint brace for months DH kept me entertained bringing me a Silkie or a Dominique into the house for visits25 eggs went into the incubator at 8pm. Day 21 will be late in the day May 7th. If I take into account my kitchen where they have been stored has hovered around the mid 60's I will probably say May 8th is hatch day. I plan on having the brooder set up and ready to go May 5th. I have always had a few hatch early around day 19 or 20 be it in the incubator or under a broody hen. There will be no plans on giving any chicks to Poppet to rear. A couple days ago she snapped out of her broody spell. Both Goose and her daughter Spooky in the last 2 days have started showing signs of thinking of going broody but neither have committed to setting yet. It is all ok though, I do not mind having chicks inside. I'm crossing my fingers for good fertility and that Davy and Barbosa are doing their jobs. I have not been to work since Saturday so I have not talked to my co-worker. Her sister took the first dozen eggs from them and they have been incubating for a week now. I will probably try to work Friday and hope to hear that she has done her first candling of the eggs then. The dentist did not pull the tooth Tuesday. Due to my diabetes I have to be on antibiotics before it is pulled. I go in the 29th to have it removed. The way it is broke it will have to be cut out. Mom thought I should have tried to sell these eggs and wait to set my own until after it was pulled so I could focus on them. Nope, I need a distraction and what better way then to babysit the incubator.
Good info...never realized SFHs are a medium breed. Though smaller by weight, Silkies are also classified as a medium size by the APA.Thank youI was hoping for a good variety of colors and I lucked out. The breeder said she believes about half will have mini crests. One breed many colors is pretty nifty.
They certainly will quickly get bigger! The SFH’s are not super big though. Hens avg 4lbs and Roosters avg 6lbs. The Silkies have held their own with the wildlings. I was worried but they are doing just fine, already they are all piling up together to sleep.View attachment 4099978View attachment 4099979View attachment 4099980
Good try kiddo! I know it’s Tuesday!*sneezes in your direction*
Enjoy forgetting what day of week it is for the rest of the month!
Happy Friday!
Georgie Girl and Clyde held their own and actually bossed the 4 they were housed with. Two of them have become Clyde’s sweethearts.Thank youI was hoping for a good variety of colors and I lucked out. According to one medical advisor pop corn without the sugar and additives is healthy has low calories and helps the stomach. Honestly information today is so darned confusingYes, non-GMO anything is healthier but it's still a starch that turns to sugar in the body. Most grains do so unfortunately. Moderation in diet for all us old folks
