Seeds seem better received than grains w/ our hens. DH offered a seed crusted whole grain bread slice & the girls devoured the seeded crust & left the grain bread behind

They aren't a fan of any breads...unless there are seeds on/in it that they can pick out of it. Spoiled...not at all!

All ready for Saturday

Even made a cover for the reservoir for hatching time. I have seen others having issues with chicks falling down in there, and if they accidentally left water in, drowning. I will definitely update the incubator group on Facebook with the results.

Wanna get even with them? Buy them a seedless watermelon

Why would someone design an incubator that had such a high risk of drowning in the first place?

I spent all day yesterday praying for my uncle. 30 years in the coal mines left him with black lung. 3 weeks ago he was put on the transplant list and had to be hospitalized as home oxygen was no longer enough. His family got the call Tuesday evening that a donor had been found. He went it at noon yesterday for a double lung transplant. The surgery lasted 10 hours but the new lungs are working perfectly. I found out a few minutes ago that he is back in the operating room for the 2nd time overnight for bleeding. It is not the new lungs it is small vessels around the lungs that are causing problems. I'm praying hard that this surgery is successful and he can begin the journey of healing.

Why would someone design an incubator that had such a high risk of drowning in the first place?

I know!!! Two ladies in my local group had chicks drown in this model just in February/march. The instructions say to remove water from the reservoir but, it can seep back into the middle super easily. They could have easily made the grate part of the blue side but didn't.
It's a shame, this incubator is the most accessible one for us poor folks because TSC marks them down to $25 at the end of the season.

Then, you stop trying to give them bread, and feed them with seeds instead. I use safflower seeds for treats (and scratch grains)
Do I need to think of everything?
