Permethrin 10 mix with some water. Spray it directly on the feathers and under the wings and tail area, let it dry by itself.
Then get a tinfoil hat and run around chanting “bug be gone, go away. No more bugs on birds today!”
Then you have to clean out the coop bedding and spray everything and everywhere.
Sorry that you have to experience this.
Big pain dealing with that for sure.

Containment isn’t the issue here. Those birds love it here and call it home. It’s the neighbors birds coming over to forage and feed and mix with my birds. Then they stay here. You probably would too if you were eating steak 🥩 shrimp 🍤 and cheese that I use for treats a bit. My Cluckingham Court is open for any weary travelers and chooks.
Ps. That neighbor trashed the back fence and never repaired it.
Put up a new fence that is damage proof. Good fences make good neighbors.

So early this morning I found this and ordered it off amazon.

One of the reviews gave a very detailed and helpful plan for treating chickens. Mix up 2 ounces with 3 gallons of warm water and soak each bird for 60 seconds. That will be a chore but it must be done. Then a deep cleaning of the coops and horse stalls while I am at it. Followed by mixing some up in a sprayer and spraying everything. Repeat in a week.

I'm going to treat every bird. So far I have only found them on George and Mrs. E. That does not surprise me as those 2 snuggle together each night. I'm wondering if maybe Mrs E. brought them in when she was given to me?

I'm also wondering if this is a new and recent infestation because as much as I handle the chickens, and snuggle George surely I would have noticed them crawling on me sooner. I could almost blame the cats for this. They caught and dismembered a cardinal in the coop that George and Mrs. E sleep in last week.
