One of our girls got attacked by a fox yesterday. the fox did end up letting go of our hen when we chased it down. She is obviously emotionally having a difficult time, so we’ve isolated her to rest. Upon further assessment, I found this (pictured) I’m unsure what this is and was hoping someone might know.

We’ve been using saline flushes, betadine, and topical antibiotic cream to help prevent infection. The rust coloration of the liquid on her is just the betadine.

Hoping to help our girl back to full health and would love any recommendations. Thank you

That can sometimes happen when a chicken gets injured. I'd watch it to see if it starts subsiding. If not, I'd rinse the area, sterilize a needle and poke it, then put your Betadine on it. It should be okay.

I hope she makes a full recovery! You're doing well for her!

Thank you so much for responding. This has helped put me at ease! We will keep an eye on it and hope it just subsides on its own so that, fingers crossed, I don’t have to drain it!
