NOTE: I changed the theme of the hatch-along, as getting the garden going in the desert of Arizona has been high on the list of chores right now. I forgot that many offer 'adoption' of the eggs. Oops! So yes, let's name these little guys using a desert garden theme!

Bring on the Chicken Math!

Ahem...

So, I'm running a hatch-along in a library where I work. I ordered Swedish Flower Hen hatching eggs from 2 different farms. Both farms put extras in the boxes. Which meant that I completely filled up my Maticoopx 20-egg incubator. But I had 7 eggs left over.

I felt horrible that 7 possible chicks weren't going to get a chance at life. So, naturally I quickly ordered another of the same incubator! I kept the eggs cool, tilted them several times a day, and on Sunday the new (second) incubator arrived. I now have it set up with the last remaining 7 eggs nestled inside.

So, here we go. 7 Swedish Flower Hen eggs in the incubator about 4 days after all the other eggs were put into the library incubator. I candled all the eggs and managed to get 4 photos of the results:

NOTE: Eggs 1-20 are incubating at the library.
Eggs 21-27 are incubating at home.

Pictures for the second day, starting with a picture of all the eggs in the incubator:

And now the eggs. I just now took these pictures, and by my calculations is around 30 hours old. In this candling I can see development in all 7 eggs, which is great! Was concerned after the extra days of sitting before the incubator arrived.
