How long do ducks lay eggs?

Ducks live 8-10 years I'm told. During that time they start laying eggs at around 5 months. Once they are starting to lay how long in their lifecycle do they lay. Do they get too old or do they lay until they pass on?

I've got a duck that hasn't started to lay yet. Last year she started up in February again for the season. So far nothing.

Any ideas?

There has been one duck that died and I recently introduced some new ducklings. So there has been a bit of stress among the ranks.

some ducks take longer to lay eggs some might not lay until a year

it depends on the duck how long they will lay some might lay everyday for their whole lives and some might only lay seasonally.

as for 8 to 10 years again that depends on the duck a very active and healthy old duck thats still acts very young might still be laying eggs while others the same age arent

What are you feeding them? My ducks free range during the day and get layer pellets at night when they come in. If your ducks are responsible to rustle up their own grub, the season may need to progress some to provide all the nutrients they need. Our grass is just starting to green and we don't have many insects at all, though my ducks seem awfully busy rooting around out there.

Plenty of layer feed, fresh food, and whatever they pick in the yard. Just wanted to see if there was something that I was missing.

Your set-up sounds great. Hopefully your duck will start to lay soon. They do hate change so maybe the stress of flock rearrangement is throwing her off. Do you lock them up at night? Maybe she's laying during the day and hiding her eggs. Sorry, I know that wasn't really your question. But there was a member on another duck thread who was breaking his head trying to get his ducks to lay, and it turned out the two ducks had been rolling their eggs under the coop for weeks. He finally found the stash after they started to stink in the warmer weather!

Many factors play in to it but I can attest to my Mallards still laying at 5.

No I don't think they are getting hidden as at one time they were and I'd see them go under a bush or the like. We watch them all the time. The one that died last week was laying for about a week. They were the same age.

Things are settling down, and routines are coming into play. Guess I'm just awaiting my gifts in the morning. I love the feeling of finding the eggs. The kid part of me I guess.

I tell ya having the ducks are the coolest experience I've ever had. Just telling people in my area that I have them get so much attention. I love being down to earth with nature and nurturing things.

Oh the babies are doing well we have another Cayuga==Dora, and 3 Khaki Campbell's Cinnamon, Brownie and Casey.
