Meyer Hatchery or MyPetChicken?

Whitch Hatchery should I choose this year for ordering my chickens?

You must purchase at least 15 birds to not get the under 15 birds fee, which is an extra $20. It is harder to keep a smaller quantity of chicks warm, especially during this time of year. Here in IL, we are having a snow and ice storm. I can’t imagine how bad it is in Maine.

Yes, I am ordering in July.
Actually, the other day was 50 Degree's out!

I ended up going with MPC over Meyer because I liked their website better. It worked out well. I got exactly what I asked for, and all are still scratching about my yard to this day. I'll be going with MPC again next round since they sex silkies and I want to add a clucking tribble to my flock.

I don't order from hatcheries very often, usually from breeders, so I have limited experience, but when I first started getting into the chicken business and decided I wanted to raise silkies, I ordered 15 white bearded silkies from Cackle Hatchery. I got 17 (they threw in two extra) and they all arrived healthy and were very well packaged. One was non-bearded, but an absolute sweetheart, so I found a relative to take him.

They were actually pretty nice quality for hatchery chicks, and one of the roosters went on to win Best of Breed at my county's fair! Again, I don't know much about ordering from hatcheries, but I was very pleased with Cackle Hatchery. I've been tempted to order from MPC several times, and I might get a few eggs next year....

Meyer and MPC ship from the same facility (Meyer handles all the shipping for MPC, they share incubator space, and some of the breeding stock for the chicks is shared between them) so, unless you want sexed bantams or one of the designer mixed breeds that MPC sells like Ameriflowers, you could really order from either and it wouldn't matter. I've ordered from Meyer before and had a good experience with them.
