I’m planning to take down their old chicken coop and get a new one. I’m doing a chicken run I was wondering if I could layer the ground with concrete and then add dirt on top because I don’t want predators digging underneath. I just don’t know if I should use chicken wire underneath because what if it rusts and gets damaged. Would it be okay to add concrete instead? Thanks!

Leave them on soil covered with dry organic material. Use a 2' wide predator apron pinned down with HD landscape staples.

Proof?
It is not good to have chickens on wire or on concrete. It is bad for their feet. It is difficult to keep clean. A predator apron on the outside will keep predators from digging into the run.
And 1/4" hardware cloth is very weak.

Yeah i removed the concrete and just used the wire. I was gonna put lots of dirt on top would that work? And what do you mean that it’s very weak?
