So I have a pair of lavender ameraucana and 2 maran hens together right now for my olive egger pen. I also have a little olive egger rooster that comes from super nice olive eggs. Would it be better to have an olive egger rooster in with my marans or keep them with an ameraucana rooster to get nice olive eggs? Also planning on adding any olive eggers I decide to keep, back into the olive egger pen. Pic of the olive eggs my rooster came from.

There's always the possibility of swapping who's with who.
It would be really interesting to see what the OE produces with Marans. But the Ameraucana would definitely give more olives for you.

I see the difficulty in choosing.

Do you put olive eggers in with your Ameraucana? Or is that just for your Marans and Ameraucana?

This is my first time breeding the olive eggers so I haven’t done any of that yet. We bought the little olive eggers we have now. I was thinking maybe I’ll do the olive egger rooster and put the marans and ameraucana hens with him and see how the eggs come out and go from there. I also have an olive egger hen that’s his sister (would I be able to put her with him if I decide to make him my rooster Ik people line breed and that’s sometimes how you get the really pretty eggs but I’m not sure if doing brother and sister is ok). Not sure what I’m gonna do yet I have some time before the olive egger rooster is ready. So I’m just gonna leave the marans with the ameraucana rooster now and hatch some 1st gen olives. Hard decisions! Lol

I've heard people say that with birds and reptiles, crossing siblings is fine.

I assume it's a "once in a while" thing. So assuming the place you got your birds from didn't regularly inbreed, there's likely not an issue if you do.

Sounds like you have a good plan.

I know it takes a while to see what eggs they'll produce, but it'll be interesting to see what happens with a... F4b? OE

I don't know why I didn't read the last part the first time.

Also will be exciting to see the F1 eggs

I have an Ameraucana cockerel, and various breeds of pullets (egg colors white, blue/green, tinted, brown speckled). I don't think I can get any dark green eggs, but I'll have a few colors. In like a year >.>

It’ll just be lots of experimenting with the olive eggers lol. Was also considering getting a maran rooster.
We had a flock just like that! Ameraucana rooster and lots of different breeds of hens and we hatched out a bunch of babies! We sold most but we kept 1 hen that I was excited about. The mom lays brown eggs with a bunch of speckles mixed with the ameraucana hopefully I’ll get a speckled green egger! She’s almost laying age so I’ll find out soon!
